Sapphire engagement ring help! Is the window too large?

Hi everyone,

I have been reading lots of your posts with interest over the last few months. You're all so knowledgeable! I was hoping you could help me with a question about a sapphire I've just bought.

Just a bit of background: my boyfriend and I have been looking for engagement ring, and after months of a worrying over whether to choose a diamond or a sapphire, I kept going round in circles. I absolutely love the colour of this stone and so last night we went for it and paid for it.

Now I'm worried about the stone having too large a window. I've read some posts on here, but I'm still not clear on what is a 'bad' window. Anyway I was hoping for your honest opinions of the stone and its window (should have done this first!!).

Including tax we will have paid about £2800 ($4300 approx) for it, so if you don't think its worth it please let me know, In the UK we pay 20% tax which is unavoidable so things can be a bit more expensive than in some states I believe! But if its way out I'd rather cancel before its shipped.

I don't really see a window based on those pictures. Color trumps cut most of the time in the colored stone world. So as long as the window doesn't bother you then it won't hurt anything.

If you're read around the forum, you'll know that a window should only be evaluated straight on while looking at the stone. Your face on picture is at a slight angle and so you can see a slightly lighter area at 2 o'clock but I suspect that's because (a) the stone is not straight on and (b) the culet is cut at a slight angle. Head on, I suspect this doesn't have a window at all but will, like numerous stones, have a minimal tilt window (which is totally acceptable).

Ah thank you so much! I always get so worried when I buy anything over a couple of hundred pounds so it's really nice to hear that. We haven't announced our engagement yet so haven't been able to gauge the reaction of friends and family . Thanks again for the help.
