Hi everyone-
I''ve been lurking here for a while and finally decided to ask for advice. I am looking at sapphires for the sides of a 3 stone ring and cant seem to decide what is a good vs. bad sapphire. Other than people having different color preferences, is there something specific to look for in color (looking at blue sapphires)? Also, it appears that round sapphires are cut many different ways. Is it hard to match two sapphires for both color and cut? We have a .78 carat diamond center and want to have the sapphire sides fairly small. Something like a 2.5 - 3 mm sapphire would be ideal. Is there any reason to look for a non-heat treated stone?

I''m sure there are many more questions to ask but this should hopefully get the ball rolling. Any information you can provide would be wonderful.

Look for well matched sapphires. One's that don't have a window, and are well saturated. Meaning that the color is fluid throughout. Heat treated one's are more common, and easily found in the size you are looking for. Non heated will be much more expensive. I don't know your price range, so I'll let the experts chime in. Good luck in your search. I love the look of sapphires and diamonds together. It's a classic and elegant look!! ETA: Color is a personal choice. I like the one's that have a cornflower blue, or a bright blue. They should look bright and not dark. HTH

Personally I think other than larger fine or above (investment) quality stones it doesn''t matter heated vs unheated. Just find a pair that looks good to you.
