Hi there,

I'm looking to purchase my first sapphire and stumbled upon this sapphire at Ritani:

Is the inclusion on the side of the stone, left side, visible at 0.04-0.05 seconds into the video. I'm fine with the way it looks from the top, just worried it's not structurally sound.

Thank you for your thoughts.

Welcome! Others may know more about this vendor or at this price-point.

I can't see the feature you are referring to -- and I assume that you mean seconds and not hundredths of a second because my reflexes are not that fast. :cool2: Nothing concerned me about durability and I saw no inclusions that were otherwise offensive in the video.

It looks pretty. I dislike when depth dimension is not provided by the vendor but you can infer it from the video -- maybe 4.5 - 5mm (?) so a little deep and a little bulgy pavilion but looks decently cut. (The "link" for their in-house report would not open for me, maybe because I did not create an account.) It will be less saturated than that video and there is already a little gray but not sure how much better you can do for $467. (It is kind of a steely blue which is non-ideal, color-wise, but appealing in this case. If you held it next a similar-tone one with zero gray and/or better saturation, you might start shopping again -- and that is about 3/4 of the colored stones forum.:mrgreen2:)

I have never bought a sapphire, heated or otherwise, without a reputable report but I recognize that it would not be cost-effective at this price point. I know the vendor name but not as a colored-stone dealer. The hope would be that this has no treatment in addition to heat.

Thank you for taking the time to look. Here's a closer look at the inclusion in the attached picture. it's on the left side closer to the bottom.

I agree that I don't think I can do much better at this price point. I've searched quite a bit. sapphire.png

Ah. I did not see that in the video. If I had to guess, I would guess it's a "natural" -- part of the rough surface of the gem that did not get faceted (not a "whoops"; just better to leave it alone than make the gem smaller and/or more asymmetric). At this price point, it could be anything but does not look concerning for a vulnerable feather and the color is light and it is not under the table so unlikely to distract from above. And the actual stone will at least a log smaller than it looks on your screen. Most important, it is far from the girdle where prongs or a bezel would be pressed against it. I am unconcerned by this feature and I'm pretty picky. I hope others come along to comment; I have not mounted that many loose gems.

A word of caution: this will be a petite stone. If you are new to this (vs. just new to this forum), mock it up with a mm rule. If you need to spend four figures to mount it, you may want to rethink the ratio. But, again, I think it's attractive for that price-point assuming: a) it looks like the video; and b) it is unadulterated beyond simple heat.

Yes, thank you for reminding me about it's size. I just went down the rabbit hole of finding stones to compare it to for sizing. (again lol)
I think I'm going to pair it with a ,50ct lab pear cut diamond for a 2 stone ring look. Together they should fill the top of my size 6 finger nicely.
