Save the date frustrations

Okay, I know this is SOOO silly to be upset about. It''s not a big deal but for so reason I am ready to scream. I want to send out save the dates for a couple reasons. Most people are going to have to travel to our wedding and our engagment is "longer" so I want to give people time to make plans so hopefully they can come. Okay, I bought everything to make our save the dates from the magnets to the glue dots. I am all ready EXCEPT we cannot agree on a picture of us to put on the magnet. I want a recent one but he has gained weight over the last year and wants an older one. I am cool with this and understand that he feels akward about recent pics of him but he only likes ONE photo from 4.5 years of dating. It is blurry, he is not even smiling, and I look horrible. Am I being unreasonable here. I told him to pick three and I''ll pick one but he is dragging his feet. Many of you know from previous threads that he is NOT into wedding planning. I am only asking him for a picture and his friend''s addresses. Obviously I am being VERY demanding. So now I am thinking of using something else as a background on the magnets (even though I had my heart set on a picture of us b/c I think STD like that are so cute). Any ideas?

Use the picture you want...if he doesn''t want to be involved in wedding planning then this is part of that.

Okay...well what about you going through your pics and finding two you feel is appealing of both of you and then give him two options (not including the one that he wants..4.5 years ago is WAY too long IMO for a save the date pic!)...I''d say choose between one of these two. That other one isn''t an option!

OR what about doing one when you are babies, and finding a graphic designer to put it together somehow?

We went with hand painted flip flop magnets from Hawaii for our save the dates. I loved them!

Could you guys try to take a picture specifically for the magnet? Or is he dead set on a photo from the past?
Maybe you guys could fiddle around with a digital camera and see if you can''t find one that makes you both happy?

I don''t understand why 4.5 yrs is too long ??? We are getting married next summer. I was just saying that we have pictures over the past 4.5 years. I have given him at least ten pictures. Hates them all. We cannot take a picture b/c he feels he is over weight (plans to lose it over the next year) Maybe baby pictures...maybe flowers...many just our hands?!?...arggg....maybe I just shouldn''t send out STDs.

I like the just the hands idea...another idea is to take a picture of your shadows or your footprints walking together on sand. I got one of these randomly in Kauai and it was awesome.

I think 4.5 years is too long, because you do change alot from year to year depending on how old you are. I look at pix from 2 or 3 years ago and it doesn''t even look like me anymore. So I''d feel odd using a picture that doesn''t accurately represent us at the time (or very closely represent). Especially if most people know you, they know what you look like (and what he does)...so I''d just go with something more current and ''accurate''...or do something entirely different!

Besides hair length I think I look the same. I think the hands idea is my favorite so far. BUT I do like the shadow idea...hmmm....

Oh, I like the shadow idea a lot, very artsy...might still be a problem if his weight is a problem, though.

Yes Ame, you are right, the problem is the ONE picture he likes is blurry so I think that won''t work. PROGRESS THOUGH! I think he has given in. I mentioned the "hand idea" and instead he said with a sigh "just pick whatever picture you want..." I feel kind of like a bridezilla but is it so unreasonable to want a picture of us in our STDs? Argg...

Not sure what area you''re from, but what about writing your wedding date in the sand and taking a picture? Or, if you''re not in the beach area, you could write it on the sidewalk in chalk! Or maybe using your baby pics would be cute. Let us know what you decide!

To my lovely ladies, that you so much for your advice and support over something as silly as a little magnet. My FH caved

he was being silly (I mean only liking ONE picture) anyways I am printing them as we speak. We went with my orginial idea and used a picture of us. You all had such great ideas though, hopefully they will help someone else silly enough to make their own Save The Dates...

Well Tybee..I thought they looked great, well they do, but I made a mistake!!!!!

I almost did cry. It is a small little bitty mistake on the back where I put hotel information. I have they have to book by july 19, 2005 NOT 2006 in order to get the discounted rate. I almost cried b/c I have them ALL printed and half stuffed and sealed. But after talking to the moms they said everyone would know what I meant so I think I am just going to leave them. The others I turned the "5" into a "6". So very depressing. These things are bad luck!!!

oh that sucks. But it''s easily fixable. Wanna hear some irony...

We took on a job for a candy start-up doing the whole thing, logo, identity, packaging, etc. Which we do NOT do at my company. We''re ADVERTISING...anyway...so we got this job right..we got THOUSANDS of dollars of packaging printed and they figured out that ALL 20 UPCs are WRONG. They never produced art so because I didn''t know anybetter I used a UPC I had and changed the number to reflect each code. They never noticed this, becauase it never occurred to them WHY I asked for art of these things...so they approved all this stuff and it got printed...shipped to customers...and then found out what happened. So now we have to figure this out, buy all the actual UPC art and send it to get the UPCs printed on perfect sized labels to place OVER the printed stuff.

Its everyone''s fault, but I still feel like a moron.

Ame, I feel your pain. My company DOES do logos, ads, identity ex...and stuff like that happens ALL the time. The client gives us the wrong fax number, wrong pricing on a menu, Italian word spelled wrong (One of our clients is an Italian restuarant and I don''t know Italian so if they give us a misspelling it stays that way), it is a horrible feeling. For our really big client we have paid for reprinting before EVEN THOUGH they signed off on the proof. It makes me so mad. Oh well. Part of the job I guess.

My boss doesn''t seem like he will do that. When they came to me and the account guy about it it was a VERY different attitude than my boss. He was more apologetic and cool about it to him...either way...it''s gotta get fixed. I will need to redo a lot of stuff, and have it that way for next time.

It was just a bang head on desk moment.

For anyone following this tread....
My FMIL just got out STD in the mail and was so excited. She couldn''t BELIEVE how great and professional they look and was so impressed. I am so happy. I am going to design our invites too b/c that is the ONLY way I can get what I want.

haha isn''t it amazing how much work and angst goes into doing your own stuff and it feel like SUCH validation when people get them and think they are professional? I had that same thing with my STD''s and also our engagement party invites, and it was fab! Makes you feel good after all the drama and time it takes to put them together yourself.
