Ok, so my FI totally didn't get this but I know you guys will understand.

Saturday morning, as my mom and I were leaving to go try on wedding dresses, our kitty ran outside and straight down the stairs. If something happened to that cat my FI would never get over it so I ran after him, caught my heel about three steps down, and tumbled after the cat down the rest of the flight of stairs.

I remember thinking as I fell that whatever happened, I couldn't damage my two-day-old ering so I fell with my hands up, not really catching myself, scraping up my shin, knee and toes in the process but leaving the ring perfectly intact.

When I told Jim he thought i was nuts for worrying about the ring because "it's insured and replaceable". Yes, but I just got it, it took three weeks to get here, and I love it more than my own skin and bones.

I seriously never thought I'd be this way about a ring- it's just a rock in a bit of metal, after all- but as I fell it was all I could think about. That and what I'd do to the cat once I caught him.

So tell me I'm not the only one!!

That''s hysterical. And I totally know what you mean.

It was raining (well, every day for weeks here, lately) and I got out of my car in the parking lot at work and somehow tripped over my own foot. I practically faceplanted and scraped myself up nice and good on the asphalt. All I could think (besides hurting so much that I was actually nauseous) was THANK GOD I wasn''t wearing my ering that day!!! I had fortuitously forgotten it at home by accident running out the door. Of course it''s insured so no matter what it would have been okay, but I was still breathing a sigh of relief it was safely at home in the box. LOL.

hahah..that''s awesome!

Hee hee, waaaay before I even met my husband I broke an ankle because I was so concerned about breaking my fall with my hands--I play piano and would absolutely DIE if anything happened to my hands! This story totally reminded me of that moment!

It''s so funny how the brain registers everything that you worry about subconsciously, and it "protects" the things that are so worried over!

Glad to hear you didn''t damage your ring, chickflick, but sorr to hear you were physically injured!

Must''ve hurt, but knowing the ring was ok was probably relief enough, lol!

Hee hee... glad that you''re okay... and that the ring escaped unscathed!

I''m sorry you hurt yourself... But I soooo would do the same...

Haha, I would so do the same exact thing. Just a week after I got my e-ring, I accidently slammed my hand in the car door. My FI was freaking out thinking my fingers were broken and all I could say was "My ring! My ring! Hurry, its going to hurt my ring!!"

Yay! I''m not crazy! No falls yet, but plenty of "are all 8 sidestones still intact?"

LOL, glad you are okay!!

You are so NOT crazy!!!! As soon as I started reading, before I even got to the ring part, i was thinking, Oh God, the ring! LOL!

Glad you''re ok and you came to the right group for enabling!

OMG!!!! I'm glad you're okay!

I check my ring ALLLLLLLL the time, the bad part *whispering* my ring isn't insured yet.

My boyfriend doesn't seem very concerned about it BUT I AM!!!!

Anywho, you're not crazy. Did you get the kitty??

I just love you guys! You''ve assured me that I''m not a freak, just a kook.

Caribou, Mr. Kitty got so scared by the sound of my mother screaming as I fell that he ran back up the stairs and straight into the condo. The little booger hid under the dining room table and when my FI got home he wouldn''t feed Mr. Kitty nor would he pay him any attention- he got ignored for the rest of the weekend. I actually caved first, which tells me a lot about how we''re going to be as parents!

I''ve imagined a similar situation happening with my fiancee. She''s the type that would sacrifice herself to save the ring. I have told her that the ring is insured and there are many more where it came from, but only one of her. I bet she will still be very cautious about it because of it''s sentimental value (which I appreciate). I just want to know that she is enoying her ring to the fullest, not being hampered by a perceived monetary value. I bought it for her to enjoy, not to leave in her jewelry box when conditions aren''t ideal.

I know exactly what you mean; I am paranoid and hide my ring out of sight in a very hard to find place even when I take a shower so that if someone breaks in they can take the stereo, the tv, and all my other jewelry, but THEY''LL NEVER FIND THE RING! Insane, maybe? Safe, definitely!

I know what you mean, I would have probably done the same thing.

I don''t think that''s weird, I think that is actually very sweet.

Actually, now that I think of it, I have a high setting and I don''t think my ring ever got hit on anything b/c I am always so cautious of not damaging it - It has now become automatic and mechanical for me to protect the ring.
