Hi Everyone,

I have a plat. and gold band for sale on DB. I received an e-mail from an "interested buyer named Monica" saying that she wanted to buy my ring. So, I sent her my paypal account info and asked her where to send the ring. I received 2 e-mails from "paypal" saying that I had been paid (over $100 over asking price) and to send the ring to Nigeria. Yeah, I don't think so! Grrr, how do we weed these annoying ones out? Is there a way to verify a "normal" buyer?

She emailed me too. I answered her and asked her to please provide me with her shipping zip code and her email address to which I would send an invoice. I am currently holding my breath waiting for an answer. :angryfire: Annoying aren't they? But I guess its all just a part of trying to sell stuff. Most potential buyers I either already know or are we can at least find them on PS or DB. But sometimes ......
Good luck with your sale! :$$):

I usually send an invoice and I tell buyers that I only ship to confirmed addresses. Don't click through the links in your emails. Always log into paypal to see if they actually paid. The confirmed address thing will usually get rid of them, but be careful and trust your gut instincts.

Btw, there was a Gloria Barry sending emails to DBers too.

Oh yeah! And I forgot to mention - I answered her thru DB - I did not reply to the email. ForeKitty brings up an excellent point. Always log onto your PayPal account independently - (never click thru a link to do it) and make sure you've been paid and its a confirmed address.

Thank you both for the tips. I will be doing things a bit differently next time. I am fairly new to this. Ha, well this scammer is going by "Monica Barry". They must be related. Oh, yes I always log directly into Paypal from the Paypal web site and never go through their links.

How do you know if its a confirmed address? Does Paypal verify that?

Yes, it will say so next to the address. There will an indication of whether its a confirmed - maybe they use "verified" I can't remember - or not.

Paypal will show whether the buyer is Confirmed and verified when you look at the payment page. If Unconfirmed, it will say Unconfirmed in orange. Confirmed will be in green. next to it will say Verified or Unverified.

The same person just tried the same thing with me, so sellers beware!

Thanks guys. I have so many things I want to sell on Ebay, and some on DB, but Im so nervous b/c of things like this. I already have a Paypal account...how do you set things up so that people can pay you there? Is it easy? Also, if someone pays you through Paypal, can you turn that money into cash? I have no clue where to start....

Here's how you can request someone to send you money (send an invoice)
https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/helpcenter/article/?solutionId=11153&m=SRE

Once you've got available money in PayPayl you can transfer the money to your bank account. PayPal I think also offers a debit card that is attached to your PayPal account but I don't use that so I can't tell you anything about it.....

Good luck selling!! :appl:

Thanks so much!! I'm going to try it out! My best friend is an expert, so she's going to walk me through it!!:)

Make sure you always double check the "sender email" when you get something from paypal. Not just the "sender name" but the actual email address. I suspect this person is mocking up Paypal emails based on the info you send them (your email address etc) and sending them to trick people.

What does this mean? Double check the sender e-mail for what? I'm a newbie too, can you please elaborate Charmy (or someone else)? Thanks!!!

What I think she means is that the email you received might not actually be from Paypal. I believe they call this phishing(sp). Email address will look similar to the real one but might have a "hotmail" address. Some scammers will send you a fake email doctored up as if it was coming from an official site. Never click on anyone's link as you can inadvertently give them your password and access to your account. In this case the scammer made it look like she paid. When the OP went to the offical site, she realized there was no payment in her account.

When you receive a link saying someone sent you money, always go to paypal's official site and sign it from there. Same thing if you receive a supposed email from your bank or anywhere else you do business. Never click on that link. Always go to the official site and log on from there.

Oh I see now, thanks ruby59!

Hey, another newbie shipper question - why on earth would an address be listed as "Confirmed" in green on PayPal's page next to the buyer's address, but then come up as unconfirmed on PayPal's own shipping label confirmation e-mail? Buyer is listed as verified, and it's a PSr, so I'm not worried it's a scam ... but I DO want to get the hang of all this for the future! And am now worried I did something wrong with the label - any advice? It's a PO box, if that makes any difference ....

Circe - did you manually enter the shipping address? Could be you made a typo maybe?

No, I went through their little automated "Print Label Now" form. It's a total head-scratcher.

Hmmmmm - that is weird! I too am stumped!

Circe - did you ship vis USPS or another carrier? I just read something that indicated it could come up as unconfirmed if not shipping w/ USPS......

HUH. Same thing with my other sale - address is confirmed, buyer is verified, everything is golden, and then a little red "unconfirmed" pops up in the "You have created a label with PayPal" verification e-mail.

TECHNOLOGY HATES ME.

HUH. Well, it doesn't explain why it's happening, but I feel better knowing it's not just me ... and MUCH better having taken a gander at the specifics of the policy one of the posters listed. Thank you so much, jbkhere!

^ That. Sending an invoice and putting all terms in writing will be needed for seller protection if there's a problem with the buyer later. I never send buyers my PayPal info. I send them an invoice. Read the PayPal Seller Protection policy (because it changes periodically) an d learn what methods of payment are or are not covered by Seller Protection.

Some of those scammers are trying to hack PayPal accounts, too. They get an email that they know is linked to PayPal and then they try to hack the password.

Hello ~
I have a paypal account and you can request a debit card for it. It will arrive about 2 weeks after you request it. You will then create a pin number for it. AND, you can have the card backed up to any card, like your debit card. Even if you dont have money in your paypal account, as long as it's backed up to another card, your purchases will still be approved. And, because theres a pin number for the card, you can withdrawal money from the ATM.

It's DEF the easiest way to have access to your paypal money without having to wait for it to transfer to your bank account :)

Btw, a couple of us have received messages about our items on DB recently, in this format, just as a heads up!

"Hello dear, am interested in buying your item xxxx. I will pay $xxx. Please get back to me. Thanks"
