I''m at home sick today, so with my spare time of course I started pondering all things wedding. Something I had read about a few months ago was using a scent machine to pump a fragrance out during your event. Lots of hotels do this- branding through scent. I really like the idea of choosing a fragrance (something light and summer that reminds you of being on the shore) to feature prominently at my wedding. What do you girls think? It costs about $250 to rent the machine. Worth it?

I wouldn't do it; I know lots of people who have allergies and some people are sensitive to perfumes.

ETA: I agree w/Stacybelle w/the scent and food mixing. Just my 2 cents.

Skippy, does it make any difference knowing that the reception is tented, so there would be constant air circulation?

I think it sounds like a fun idea, but if you''re serving a meal the fragrance might clash with the food & make things . . . yucky, for lack of a better term.

No way! Buy some $3 scented candles and place them in the corners of the room. Blammo! You just saved yourself $240!

I was looking at these a few months ago. I mentioned it to my dad, and he said "Ok, I''ll make sure to bring my inhaler."

That was the end of my scent machine idea.

Go to Trip Advisor and look at the reviews of THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay. Most people HATE the scent (which is very close to Michael Kors perfume) but I ADORED IT. It''s such a personal thing. And some people get bad reactions to scents... headaches, so forth. That I woudn''t risk it. I personally would like it though as a guest.

Gypsy, I LOVE the scent at THE HOTEL. It reminds me of Fresh Lemon Sugar! I also love the room spray at the WHotel. I''ve been trying to get a hold of it to use in my own house. I''m definitely one of those ppl that these hotels market to. I love being in places that smell nice. Anyway, not to digress- I see all of your points about allergies, etc. As someone who suffers from seasonal allergies, I wouldn''t want to put anyone through that. Thanks ladies

Hi
Your wedding and all that

, but, if you are doing it for your guests, please, please dont. I for one am very sensitive to smells and would hate it, I would be out of there as fast as I politely could. Headaches etc from artificial smells are not my idea of fun. As others have said, smell is so personal, one persons wondeful aroma is another persons nighmare, let alone people with allergies, clashing with food etc etc,

some nice low key, NATURAL scented candles would be the way to go. Understated and quality.

Anyway, hope I dont offend.

It was a lovely, lovely thought, and your consideration of your guests (especially after nixing an idea you were excited about) is even more lovely.

It makes no difference to me, I'd probably leave if I was subjected to smelling gobs of perfume through some forced air machine. Blech. But then, I hate perfume and I cant stand when women wear heaps of it and force the rest of us to smell it. Yup, I'd probably leave a reception like that very quickly...Sorry...If you want "perfume", how about getting some fragrant real flowers to do that job...nature has a way of being more discreet with it's level of fragrance and no doubt you can create a subtle scent with real flowers, yes?
