I'm finally getting around to posting this. I have been busy with work and a house renovation. On Nov. 18-19 I went to the Gem and Jewelry show in Seattle. The show is offered in November and I believe March. I went to the Nov. show last year, but did not go to the March show of this year. Last year was the first show after COVID so was a bit lacking in nice items. I did pick up an Ethiopian opal for a good price.
This year the inventory available seemed to be better. I was particularly infatuated with a Sri Lankan couple's booth. They had very nice stones and were pleasant to talk to and deal with.
On Saturday I just looked around the show and planned to come back on Sunday to make any final decisions. Not all booth owners would allow photos, but the Sri Lankan vendor encouraged me to take photos of things I was interested in. Here are some stones I was considering:
A green paraiba tourmaline with wonderful sparkle, a pair of greenish blue paraibas that were pretty, and a pad. sapphire with a certificate. Some of their stones had certificates, some did not.
I ultimately decided on a lovely cat's eye chrysoberyl. I am very partial to "optical" stones (star stones, color change stones, opals, etc). This chrysoberyl will even show it's chatoyancy in relatively low light.
The "star" of the show (pun intended), however, was a stunning 68 ct blue star sapphire the Sri Lankan vendor had. The color and the star were amazing. He let me photograph the stone and it's certificate. Photos do not do it justice. A bit beyond my price point at over $200K.
I also picked up an emerald and diamond ring for a nice price . It has nice color and clarity. It is not large at .65 ct, but very pretty.
