Okay, so while Talking with Beezy, i mentioned Engagement Chicken, and looked up the reciepe. It didnt work for me last time, maybe it works when you get close to engagement, SOOO, i decided to try it again. I didnt follow the directions to a T...im sorry Lemon and just Salt is pretty plain, so i add some Garlic, some onions and a little butter. I couldnt get the SO to eat it last night, sue to his work scedhule, but he took a plate to work, so lets see how it works this time. I also made, Make him beg Chocolate Mousse( hehe, i named it), well it didnt turn out well, so it is now in the process of being baked into " Oppppsss" cheesecake...so without further ado....heres the pics...

*falls over laughing* I've never heard of an engagement chicken. I just looked it up and think it's marvelous! I may try this out!!!

Did you stick a lemon inside the chicken? When I googled it, there's a lemon inside the chicken. I find that very artistic. It looks too hard for me. I don't like the idea of cleaning the inside of the whole chicken.

Well the last time i made the D*mn , opps, engagement chicken  no luck, so hopefully it helps this time.

Bee, yes there is a lemon in there....i cut it though....sticking a whole lemon up a chickens Butt isnt easy......so i cut it.....it looks so pretty when tis done, and taste so good....

Maybe try it in chicken breast format...

Also...this time, almost all the Innerds of the chicken just came out...i flushed it with water and almost all of it came out....i had to pull these two little pieces out, im guess the kidney, but that was...i didnt even ahve to pull out the neck, i had to pull out the neck, and EVERYTHING last time...it was super easy this time.....Hmmmmmm...maybe thats a good sign

see.. I can never do that... pull out the organs and stuff... :knockout: :o

you totally deserve the proposal. Your SO should know how hard it is to make it!!! You'll make a good wife!

awwwwwww, thank you.......haha, i got lucky this time, with it just comming out....Ducks are super hard to do.....i hate cooking duck......there should be like engagement Duck, Engagement Chicken, Engagement Fish........hahaha, deponds on what your SO likes......

Now we wait to see if the chicken works.....the 2 months period runs into our Sept trip :praise:

I agree with beezygal, you're gonna make a great wife!!

If I ever made something like this I would most definitely mess it up and then he would never propose lol

awwwwww.. thank you, but seriously ladies, its not that hard. SO just emailed me and said the chicken hit the spot....lol...its pretty good for left overs too....i made a mexican chicken pizza...just a plain tortilla, with some low fat weight watchers cheese, with the chicken, and some salsa with a little bit of shredded lettuce...super yummy and very filling.

for ages and ages i read on pscope about engagement chicken....after more than a year of wondering what exactly it was i looked it up - turned out id been making it for ages  my SO has me figured i guess, i cook for him and still no sparkle :naughty:

lots of DUST for you Jessie that it works second time around =)

*scratches head* What in the world is the vegetarian's version of Engagement Chicken?

SO and I both are veggies...if anyone has a suggestion that doesn't involve an oven (ours is currently on the blink) I'd love to hear it!

Jesse--I think you made a fine effort and hope it pays off! The cut-up lemons do look nice. I've only been veggie for 5 years, so my advice to you as a former meat eater would be to dissect the chicken into parts first, trim the parts, and then bake it. It's hard to go wrong with pieces of poultry seasoned well and given a kick of citrus, methinks.

Hope the dessert turned out well and was appreciated! You've gone to a lot of trouble over this! :appl: Good luck!

I'm going to attribute it to some magical quality in the 'engagement chicken' itself, because if it's just the cooking, it's not working! I already cook! :cheeky:

Some of you might have seen my other thread about Sept/Nov so I'm making this chicken this weekend and praying the two month time frame kicks in!

HA! Me too Mashira...me too.

I actually just packed bf's lunch. Perhaps I should stop until a ring is produced.

Thank you BlackPaw, i hope it works....
Monarch, thank you so much....normally i am a breast meat type of girl or wing.....Dont know how go all veggie's, its so hard for me, i crave a cgood chicken salad like once a day. LoL....Thank the desert didnt turn out how i liked, but i made cheesecake, thanks Beezy for the advice, and put some of the choclate mousse in it, and ill sprinkle some on top and have him taste test it tommorow before work...he likes to taste test so i dont cook much....guess he wants all he can get.
Good Luck Mishhra...if you do cook it, the time for it is more like 2 to 3 hours, instead of the one. I dont even set my timer, i just watch it
Silly...you should try to make it this weekend....the orignal reciepe is super easy....but plain in my SO view(from the last time) and mine so i spiced it up some with the garlic and onions and butter. The skin came out super crispy, and the juice that is left over you can either just pour on top, OR, you can add a bit of flour to it and some more spice along with a little broth and it would make a awesome gravy.
Gl Ladies....you should try it....LoL...

I was going to ask the same thing! (about the Veggie version) lol. Maybe I could make up an Engagement Vegie Bake or an engagement Apple and Blackberry pie? Or just keep trying things until something works (and we are both 20 pounds heavier lol)

I am a vego and he is not but does eat mainly vego coz he is not bothered as long as its food

My SO is vegetarian too! How about an engagement salad? We make one with hearts of romaine, hearts of palm, olives, artichoke hearts, a little red onion, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and feta cheese if you want it.

We also eat a lot of veggie curries and rice and beans, but this salad tastes good and makes you feel good too. Feeling after-dinner-itis is not so romantic, which is why I'm thinking engagement-salad over engagement-rice and beans.

LoL...I Love how people are trying to firgure out their own version of engagement chicken. Maybe what makes it work is the feeling and thought behind it

So quick update...i used the chocolate mousse, that didnt turn out so well in a home made mini cheesecake. I actually mad single serving and did a chocolate crust, with a spoon full of the mousse than chessecake, and than whenit was done and i gave it to him to taste, i put the left over mousse on top...he said the crust was not so good, but everthing else was good, and rich....hmmm, might be a keeper when i firgured out the crust.

the crust shouldn't be harder than the cheesecake. How are you making the crust?

well for me it was...it just didnt chocolate grham crackers and butter...it was burned a little, think next time, i wont cook the crust before hand

maybe it's so hot where you live, the crust was already cooking before you put in the oven? but you have AC... n/m :cheeky:

that might just be...i hate the crut burned cuz the cake part of it, was sooo good. I might just by the crust and redo it so the SO and i ahve some for over the weeken, and ill just make some straberry suace for top...even though it was good all by itself. Man, now i ahve a sweet tooth.

I'd stick with engagement beer. It is undisputed that beer has caused many romances and marriage.

Lulu--ROFL at engagement beer! I bet if I brought home a 12-pack of Harp he'd drop down on one knee before I made it to the fridge! Hahahaha!

IndyLady--I make a version of that salad as well! Soooo good. It would also make a good accompaniment to engagement chicken, with the HEARTS of romaine, HEARTS of palm, and artichoke HEARTS!!!

my bf doesn't drink at all. All he drinks is water. He says it's healthy. I think it's boring. Maybe if I "threaten" him with not giving him water, he'll propose sooner.

HaHa...is there engagement Jack Daniels??? I got lots of Jack......thats our choice drink...

hehe I made this about a year ago...loved the name of the recipe!

"Engagement Jack." *shrugs* It could work!

I'm a vegetarian too : ) I think we need to put our heads together and come up with some meat-free alternative to this dish.

SO isn't though.. and when he got sick two weeks ago he wanted his recently deceased mother's chicken and rice. I had to ask the man at Sweetbay how to pick out chicken? I have eaten chicken in like... 10 years maybe longer? I'm just glad I didn't get him more sick in my efforts of cooking it. : ?
