Hi all! Really hoping to get an opinion on my upgraded engagement ring - it's a 2.06ct E VS1 elongated radiant cut (8.81x6.32x4.29) set on 2mm gold pave band, with a white gold basket. I am upgrading from a 1.01ct G SI1 set in a halo. We worked remotely and received this video of the finished ring yesterday and hubby's first comment was that it 'looks small'. This put me out a bit and now has me second guessing - we could have gone up in carat size, but I was hesitant to given where we live even 1ct is considered a good sized stone and I didn't want unnecessary attention at work etc. Would love any and all opinions as it's not too late to change things now - I wear a size 7 finger for reference (due to large knuckles).

Doesn't look small to me! I also live in an area where anything over .75ct is considered huge. Sounds like you know your gut, I've worn things that I thought I would love but ended up being uncomfortable about the size.

It looks classic and since you are wearing it, you should go with your preference.

It's a beautiful ring. Only you can really know if you would like to go a little larger. Here is a comparison of the radiant and a 1 carat. (I entered 6.5 mm for that) Your upgrade has 57% more face up area than the round.

eta - I just saw that your ering is a halo. I can see where that could influence the perception of size, halos do add finger coverage.

I am guessing some of the angst over size is that while you increased the diamond size, you also removed the halo, potentially netting out to the same overall size. I can see how that might be a little disheartening. Would you prefer to add a halo to the upgraded ring, would that make a difference in how you feel about it?

Your ring, and your diamond, are lovely. Classic, simple, and a great size standing on their own.

For the heck of it, here's your diamond compared to a 3 carat, I used 9.5 x 7.5 mm. The 2.06 certainly doesn't look small and it sounds like it's more in your comfort zone. IMG_0825.jpeg

Your husband has gotten DSS!

I predict larger diamonds will become more ‘normal’ with labs gaining acceptance.

Seriously - I think it doesn't help that I've been looking at forums while I wait and had over a month to doubt my decision!

Thank you for the reassurance! I've even wondered if people at work are going to notice the new ring and although I love nice, sparkly things, I prefer to stay under the radar in the work setting.

Wow, I put in my exact radiant 1.01 ct dimensions and compared it to the new diamond and the new stone faces up 73% larger. I definitely got the halo to make my 1ct look larger, as our financial situation was different 5 years ago, so I was a little nervous losing it. I just measured the new stone on paper and it's just about the same size (a little longer and less wide) thankfully!

Exactly this - I just measured the new stone size to my set halo ring and it's pretty much the same size (a little longer and a hair less wide). I think I'm okay with that though because the facets and sparkle will extend the entire length of the stone instead of a small portion in middle - if it were smaller I would have been disappointed.

I definitely wanted a solitaire setting for this upgrade, while I really enjoyed my halo I think I've grown out of it a little and this style is more me!

You're right, there really isn't THAT much difference between them. I think I made the right choice, given all the other factors such as social settings, work. Who knows, give me another 5 years and I may feel comfortable rocking a 4+ carat haha

Sorry, for some reason I thought your current ring was a round…it sounds like the 2.06 will work best for you and your lifestyle. It’s beautiful and will look very sparkly and substantial on your hand. Please come back with hand shots!!

HI:

Looks lovely! Hand shots please!!!

cheers--Sharon
