Seeking Opinions - is this saleable, or should I rethink it?

Hello friends,

I removed the original stone from this Edwardian necklace mount yesterday, and tried setting Charlotte into it. I think it looks pretty good, however I'm conflicted about letting Charlotte go, both because she's super pretty, and because she's got a visible chip, so I'm not sure a buyer would want her.

I'm looking for opinions on whether it would be better to

a) remove Charlotte and offer the necklace without a center stone, as a Semi-Mount
b) leave her in the necklace and offer it up this way (of course, with extreme-close-up photos and discussion of Charlotte's chip)
c) remove Charlotte and have another stone mounted in the necklace for resale (pale yellow sapphire or spinel, maybe? And probably bezel-set.)

As much as I'd like to keep the old mine cut Melee, they're bezel set, and I don't have the heart to destroy the delicate setting. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Very pretty! And this is not my area, although spouse has a similar (Edwardian) pendant with a similar drop -- sans center focal point.

Without the center stone, you will only reach a tiny, niche market, imo.

With the center stone -- even a damaged one and with a full disclosure -- you will reach pretty much everyone.

I would still have bought the one I did even if it had a damaged diamond because the appeal is the whole piece. I also think that a colored stone in the middle could pull it out of the era...

Thank you - that is excellent feedback.

I agree with @LilAlex. For myself, I’d rather have something that’s already mounted than trying to figure out what will fit in the space. It can at least be worn right away and the buyer can choose to change the stone later. Just disclose the fact of the chip and show where it is. I’m assuming the chip is in the northeast edge or is that just a reflection? I couldn’t really see the chip with magnification so someone may want to wear it as is.

Thank you for your response!

Yep, the chip is at roughly 11 o'clock on the face of the stone right now. It could be easily rotated to suit a buyer's preference, but trying to hide things like that is a huge no-no in my book, so I put it in plain view, not behind a prong.

Another vote for selling as a whole piece. If it’s sold with the stone then it will reach a wider audience, some folks feel finding a stone is more of a hassle than a fun adventure.

Omg. She’s sooo pretty. I would be someone who would accept her as is.
