I need to get some things straight here.

Since I own a place that sells diamonds to the public, I can not post that a customer with a question should buy from me or I have no problem getting under any of the prices or even getting the same diamond from lists that are posted. Right or Wrong ?

But yet a consumer can post and comment the same to move customers to deals and websites ? Ive seen this a lot with just consumers, whats right ?

Would it have been to my best interest to have signed in as a consumer ?

Or does a vendor email the customer this information?

This is the best forum for jewelry I dont want to get kicked off of this one also

I am one of the consumers who recommended a particular vendor because of the great experience I had with them. They gave me no incentive to do so except for great service, a stone to my liking that appriaised well and at a price below what I told them my budget was.
If you have customers who want to do the same for you, citing their experience with you, would you object to having them do so? I looked for several months until I found what I wanted and gave the name of the vendor who did the job for me. Others have had great experiences with other vendors who have done I great job for them and have posted names and links. I see nothing wrong with this. This is a diamond information site and private consumers should be able to recommend sources.
I did actually buy the ring I spoke of and it is posted under Show Me the Ring. I do not think I did anything wrong by posting my sucessful experience with a very reputable vendor.

Ice, I would just give your advice as an expert but don't specifically say, "I can get you that" or "Buy from me." I suspect that if you sound trustworthy and willing to help just out of the goodness of your heart you'll attract customers.

Corey, the key here is in the word "self". SELF-promotion is not allowed.....because customers don't want to feel the "vulture" effect (akin to the used car salesman thing).

What customers ARE looking for when they come here is input/feedback from people who either know about diamonds and don't have a vested interest in sharing that information, or they are looking to get "real" feedback on vendors.

For example, I bought my e-ring from Whiteflash. I had a great experience with them, and I'm happy to give particulars if asked. I don't benefit in any way from doing it other than to pass along help as was done for me when I came here dazed and confused.

One of the vendors who has become quite popular here did so completely without self-promotion. They simply posted "non-leading" helpful information when possible. One day, I decided to check out their website....found that site carried most of the "technical" details we cut freaks really want. A customer came on looking for a specific set of parameters on a stone, and Vendor A was the only vendor who had anything close. I mentioned that, and this person bought from Vendor A...had a great experience. Increasingly, people found value in the info provided on this vendor's website and business has grown.

Bottom line: Answer questions if you can help in a non-leading way, and let your satisfied customers be your biggest asset.

Great comment. As a new member here I am having to go through that "eternity" period when most people do not yet know me that I went through on another place. Fortunately this is being short circuited by the fact that so many of my friends are also here now.

Personally, I think that the method that you gave is much better than self promotion any way, as comments from a third party are a much more powerful incentive than anything one could say about himself.

I don't think either Ice or Wink have a thing to worry about. Both have reputations that preceed them!!

Don't worry wink, lots of people know you here, there is plenty of good feedback here in the backlog.

Thanks! I am still learning my way around, I did not even know where the testimonials could be found.

I do know that I like the atmosphere here!
