Hi Selkie--

Would you mind sharing more about your sailboat wedding? Is there a thread somewhere?

My FI and I love sailing and we were thinking about renting a 40-50'' vessle for the day after the wedding for the OOT family and friends to spend more time with them. (Probably not going to do this now but in theory it''s a great idea!)

Thanks!
Stacy

Hi guys,
Sure! Aljdewey and I went back and forth for a while in this thread, because her reception was on the same boat, the Thomas E. Lannon in Gloucester, MA. Here''s a link to the website of the boat: www.schooner.org.

My FI and I are both sailors, and we met on a schooner here in Los Angeles. I grew up in Mass, so I wanted to get married there. We''re having an informal reception for our LA peeps when we get back, on yet another boat.

The wedding will be in July, 2007, and we''ll most likely have both the ceremony and reception aboard, with about 40 people. As you can tell, it will be very informal, and hopefully FUN!

You are in LA, aren''t you, selflove (I know from the LA get-together thread)? In fact, if you want any suggestions for local charter boats, I can probably give you a few tips. Where do you sail??

How neat! What a great idea! Who wouldn''t have fun sailing??!! Unless someone gets seasick...

We are members of Marina Sailing and we usually go out of MDR or RB but once we went out of Long Beach for a lesson. We were ambiously thinking about how much fun it would be to take all of our OOT family and friends out on a boat the day after the wedding. But when we counted the people, we figured we would need about a 50'' vessel for everyone to be comfortable for the day. It''s not cheap, and since we''re already over budget on almost everything, we decided to do something a lot more low-key. Plus, we could have hangovers and sailing with a hangover is not fun for me.

Ah, I get it, you were thinking of doing a charter separately from the wedding. That is a lot of additional expense. We are only getting away with the second boat reception here because my FI has put in literally hundreds of volunteer hours of rigging work on the ship, and we won''t have to pay for the charter time.

We''ll be sailing inside a very protected harbor, and the reception portion will probably be at anchor in a cove, so the seasickness *shouldn''t* be an issue. Of course, some people are very sensitive. I might have to write "Please take Dramamine" on the invites! Just kidding.

I used to sail in MDR, but now we mostly go out of Cabrillo in San Pedro.

If you have welcome bags for OOT guests, put Dramamine in them! hee hee!

Sounds like a great, unique, memorable wedding! I definitely wanna see pictures!

That''s a great idea! I wasn''t planning to do anything like that, but it might be fun to hand out little bags as people board that have water, dramamine, and sunscreen in them...hmmm...I could even do personalized labels!

Oh, god...it''s starting. The goofy little ideas that are just going to get me in trouble in the long run.

That is a great idea--a "favor bag" full of stuff they can use on the boat! It''s the little things like that which make your wedding personal, unique and special. And you could have these bags ready to go weeks or even months before the ceremony.

Yeah, I *already* started googling "mini boat bags." My aunt was probably going to do chocolate bars with labels, but I''ll ask her to make ones for sunscreen instead. My mom works for a dermatologist, so hopefully she can hook me up with samples. Thanks for the inspiration!
