Selling a new engagement ring or just the setting...

Hi everyone,

My partner and I purchased an e-ring from James Allen, but sadly after wearing it for a few months I've come to realize I'm really not the halo/pave type.

It's a cushion outline halo with a pave band set in platinum, and I currently have a 0.7 center stone. I would be fine to keep the center stone and reset it into a simple solitaire, and sell the current setting by itself, but I'd also consider selling the entire ring as is and starting over.. Any advice? Is one option better than the other? Where do people recommend I adverstise, and any tips in doing so?

My partner is being very supportive, but with the setting being roughly $2k Canadian, I'm nervous to just lose the money we paid for it.

For reference, this is the current setting: https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...shion-outline-pave-engagement-ring-item-49998

Thanks in advance.

Why don’t you put a colored stone in it for a while for a RhR and see if you miss the coverage by going to a solitaire.

I’ve had someone make this suggestion but I don’t wear any jewelry and the pave/halo just catches on everything, is distracting and just not practical for me was hoping to try and make some money back on the setting and it’s not looking likely.

Beautiful setting.
The problem will be the price you’ll receive. As a preloved setting you can expect to only receive half or less of the amount you paid.
Best place to sell, no fees, would be LoupeTroop. You could use eBay but their seller fees are around 13% these days.

You are likely to find that selling a used engagement ring minus the center stone is more difficult than you are expecting. There are venues for such things; pawn shops, eBay, craigslist, and consignment sites like Idonowidont, but be prepared for a price negotiation. It's a long and bumpy ride.

This is is something I experienced. I had a setting on consignment but it took quite a while to sell.

Thank you for your replies! Helpful to know and I appreciate the information :)
