Went for a hair cut this morning. They guy was awesome but didn''t have time to really style it. So I''ll have to go back. He was so cool- he gave me the latest issue of modern bride and said to bring in more inspiration pics for him to work from (I brought in one, I''ll have to scan it to show you- but I''m not set up to do that right now) I''m thinking a lot like these pics, but more waves- old school hollywood style. For the make-up I went to nordstroms beauty counter and did a trial. I bought the foundation, matching powder and a good brush to apply it with. Overall, I like the look. I wanted something glamorous. But I wanted red lipstick- dark like this, but RED - is that so hard to do? The lower lip seems to be drawn a little too full, and the top seems uneven when I look in the mirror, but I don''t notice it in these so much. The eye-liner especially on the lower lid seems a little heavy, but I''m not used to wearing any. I really like the smoky look. I''m gonna try to have my brows done with a little more of an arch to them. These pics were taken back at the house- about 4 hours after finishing at the hairdresser, and about a half hour after the make-up. I''m gonna leave the make-up on until I go to bed to see if it bothers me (and my contacts) too much.

I like the eyes, but I''m not loving the lipstick shade. It look a bit flashy to me. I never wear makeup however, so my opinion might not be the best!

faerievert, you look lovely! I can totally see more "Hollywood" old-school waves for your hair. Love the eye makeup. I don''t know if it''s my computer monitor, or what, but I feel like the lipstick shade''s blue undertone doesn''t complement the rest of your makeup or coloring...I know you''re going for old Hollywood glam, so I get the darker lip shade, smoky eye thing, but maybe you could play around with the particular shade of lip color. Could be my monitor, though!

I''m definitely going to play with the liptstick. Do you think it''ll work with my gown? and how will I attach the veil? now to look for barettes see if I can find a nice one for on the side.

you look hot!!!!

What about a dark, cocoa brown with pinkish tones for your lipstick? Just a thought, after seeing your dress again....

ETA: you are SO pretty!

love the eye makeup, agree w/u regarding the arches. play with the lip colors - the dress looks great on you and I love your healthy hair...looks very nice.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your eye makeup. gorgeous... I agree the lip color could be different... the waves would be great but do a trial and see if they can last thru the day.

Oh la la, very glamorous!!! I think you look great and while I''m not normally a fan of dark lipsticks, I love the red on you. It''s so dramatic and sexy!! A little bit of wave in your hair might be a good idea just to give it some more body but as flopkins said, make sure it will last all day. I think you look great!!!

I think you look absolutely beautiful! The lipstick is a little bright for me, but it looks great on you!

Girfriend, you manage to look smokin'' and classic at the same time!!! I ADORE that dress and the hair and make-up are awesome. (Although I agree--I''d prefer something a little more subtle w/ the lipstick b/c of the more cocoa feeling to the dress) But GORGEOUS!

thank you so much everyone! I will work on the lipstick color, definitely. I don''t know a thing about makeup really, so who knows what I''ll end up with. and I have to figure out what to do on the bridesmaids. hair is fun for me, but just looking at the make-up counter nearly had me in a panic attack! it will be such a pain to find a good place to get it done too. Ugh.

You look like a old-school hollywood starlet- I love love love it!

I think (besides the lipstick which has already been addressed) the only thing I noticed about the makeup that isn''t as flattering as it could be is actually the blush; it appears that it is much more on the sides of your cheeks and down a little bit, rather than sort of on the apples/cheek bones. I think a little less "area" with the blush and just on cheek bones (not the 80s streaky look just less... spread out) would accent you very well.

Just my opinion- you look great!

You're going to look fab!! The only thing is...I am not a fan of the smoky eye PLUS the red lips...It's a bit much...They say you should really go for one or the other...also,....that lipstick is going to be a pain in the ass...it's a long night...I'd keep the eyes and do a ever so slightly more natural lip...how about a dark reddish gloss or stain?? Easier to maintain and apply all night and makes just as much impact...And I agree with antigua- you don't need that much blush...tell him to go easy on it and just some on the apples..

I agree that a more subtle lipstick would focus more attention on you but I also wanted to say that you look gorgeous!! Your dress is beautiful and you are so pretty- you''re going to be a lovely bride!

First of all, you look gorgeous! Very glamorous & totally hot! I do, however, agree with MMM that the smoky eye & the red lipstick together might be a bit much. I''d tone down one or the other (my vote is for the lips).

I looooove your new dress, btw!

I love your hair and think that if you add some more old-style hollywood waves it''ll look smashing.

I''m kind of a make-up novice also and got lots of really helpful advice from a thread just like this. I know that you want red lips, but I''d give a more subtle shade a try...your eyes look gorgeous and the eyes, plus the hair, plus the lips might look overdone.

on the otherhand, is this a pretty formal, evening affair -- then the dramatic lips might look appropriate too!

regardless it looks great

WOW you look gorgeous!! Seeing your pics is making me think for the first time, "Hmmm, maybe it really IS worth getting makeup done professionally..."

I adore the eyes, hair (although I agree a little more wavy would be even better), and foundation/blush, and agree with you/everyone about the lipstick. I think something a little browner/less pink would flatter your coloring and dress better. Either in a deeper darker red, or a more neutral brown. Good luck!!

Love the eyes - love the dramatic lip as well, but something about the particular shade is not right to me. Perhaps, as someone suggested, a little dollop of gloss maybe, but I''m thinking a tweak on the shade would be good. You look beautiful!

I totally agree with the waves in your hair (gorgeous!) a bit of gel, or mousse may help get the starlet-type waves that can stay, and still keep it from looking hard or sticky. I also agree about the blush, it looks a little too doll-like. A nice berry stain, perhaps slightly glossy would be stunning, and you can probably find a deeper red, too. And one more thing which I hope doesn''t come out too pervy, I remember your dress from the dress post, and girl, your butt looks great! PLEASE don''t get creeped out- it''s something I think every time I see it, "I wish my butt would like like that in a dress!"

You look like a old-school hollywood starlet- I love love love it!
You look so pretty! I agree w/ what the others have said... a little less blush, and more focused to the apples. And a lighter lip... or perhaps just a different shade? Ok, I am repeating exactly what everyone else has said, but I still wanted to say that you''re going to look beautiful!

Could you be any more beautiful?! My god, what a transformation! If you''re going for old hollywood glam, I believe it achieved it to perfection. Based on how the photos will look, I wouldn''t change a thing. But in person, I bet the blush looks a bit dark. I like the lipstick. I love the eyes. Love the hair.

Are you wearing the hair down for the wedding? You could do a half updo with loose curls coming down in the back and stick the veil in the updo.

I would tone down the lipstick. It does look very beautiful on you, but here''s some advice that I got from a great modeling photographer who did the photo''s for my portfolio. He said that really bright or dark lipstick ages you in photos. I think you look gorgeous in in, and are of course very young! But might still want to go softer. Just my thoughts...

Looks like there''s a consensus on the lipstick! And I agree -- it''s a bit strong. The eyes are beautiful and dramatic (and you have such perfect skin!)....I''d pair the eyes with a more muted, natural looking lip color with a hint of shine.

Gorgeous gown! For a style like that, I''d go classic with the hair: a HIGH up-do (I''d go for a french twist or bun), with the veil attached just above the bun, covering it. My 2 cents!

I look really funny in a high up do...I dunno, something with my head shape I guess. And I''m not really the princess type. Having it down would be for my FH, not me really. I think it''s lovely down and all, but it would really mean a lot to him. You don''t know how heartbroken he looked when I told him I was wearing it all pulled back and tucked away. He''s a very macho guy, but also a real romantic. He adores my long hair and is always asking me to wear it down for him more often. I think sometimes we forget that as much as we try to picture our perfect wedding, sometimes our groom has some dreams of their own that we ought to try and make come true too. So I''ll have it down to surprise him.

I still really want red lips (real red, not that horrid dark pink she gave me), and I know this sounds silly but I like that it will age me in the pictures! I''m 23, still relatively young, but I tend to have trouble convincing people I''ve graduated from high school, let alone college! Someday I''ll be grateful to look younger than I really am...but that day hasn''t come yet.

I used to do makeup as well, and the rule is: focus on one feature. If you do the lipstick, then tone down the eyes. Or vice versa....
