Fear?

OKay... I will start..Some people are afraid of snakes and spiders.. My Dh is terried of snakes...

I fear being forgotten..

I have a serious crab and cockroach phobia...
23.gif
I''m talking SERIOUS, like panic attacks and passing out...
32.gif
Very bad!! I have other less-so-serious fears, but these are my two big ones!!

Ha HA HA !! I too have a phobia of cockroachs.. I HATE them.. everytime I see one or think of one I get chills.. palmetto bugs by any other name is still a roach.

I am totally terrified of spiders and bees. Bascially any bug actually. I have a panic attack and can focus on nothing but the freaking spider or bee. One of these days I am going to crash my car, and I''ll have to explain to the police officer and my insurance company that it all started because there was this little spider in my car...
31.gif

Just thinking of them gives me the creeps...
40.gif

And my other fear is people just not understanding me in a serious situation. Like, I have nightmares that I am being committed to a mental institution and no one will listen to me that I am completely fine...
32.gif
Wierd.

Needles!!! Seriously...just the thought of a needle touching anyone''s skin (not just my own) sends shivers down my spine and my stomach turns into a knot.

My other fear (but more rationally based) is bees...I have a strong suspicion that I might be allergic to bees (long story) and cringe when they come around me.

But the needle thing is a more serious "fear"...

I think mine has to be moths
emcrook.gif
I despise them and they terrify me. Especially the ones with the horrid dusty wings, the big ones - if I am heard screaming my head off DH always knows there is one in the bedroom
emotion-41.gif
It is so strange, I don''t mind rats, will handle snakes, deal with
41.gif
''s every day, but I HATE MOTHS. I ALSO HATE DRAGONFLIES, why do they always have to fly AT me????????

Me too... MOTHS! Eww eww eww! I can handle spiders, mice, rats, snakes, you name it, but I loath moths. I have been afraid of them for as long as I can remember.

I am also afraid of train tracks and house fires.

My husband is afraid of spiders. He is this tough military guy, but I always have to "save" him from spiders!

Glad i''m not alone with my moth phobia Mrs Kat

I hate the noise they make when they flutter too, it''s all dreadful

Yes and make that awful crackling noise too

all DH has to do to gross me out is to mention moth dust

and I freak

Sparkly you bee story sounds awful, a few years ago I was driving along on a warm summers night and a june bug, we call them stag beetles - you know the huge things with the hard black shells, hit the side of the open window mounting and landed on the side seat, spinning on it''s back in it''s dying throes, with all it''s innards splattered everywhere
32.gif
6.gif
How I didn''t crash the car I''ll never know, it was a HORRIBLE experience, thank goodness for A/C as I will rarely drive with the window open now, the memory of that thing hitting the car is too horrible, it sounded like a gun going off too.
32.gif

Why do these things happen to me?
39.gif
I also hate grasshoppers too, unfortunate as where I live I am surrounded by them in the countryside. I often find them clinging to my bedroom curtains
emotion-41.gif
. I am on a roll now with my bug hates
3.gif

As I have said I am on a roll now and to turn the other side of the coin, I love pet rats and ferrets!
41.gif
DH and I are thinking of getting a pair of baby ferrets as pets. When I worked as an animal tech, I used to care for this rat and she was a sweetie! She would happily sit on my shoulder and share my sandwiches at lunch, she was also very fond of a piece of cake. Bless
12.gif
I have been badly bitten by a ferret once and it wasn''t a pleasant experience but it hasn''t put me off! Funny how these phobias occur, it seems odd that I am so scared of moths, yet will happily deal with a snake, rat or ferret?
33.gif

This is another one - ESCALATORS, I hate them! It takes me a while to pluck up courage to step onto one, hate the ones in the London Underground most as they are so steep, but I think I have heard too many horror stories of accidents with escalators, I will avoid them where possible and use the stairs in preference anyday.
40.gif
I don''t know the reason for this phobia, Achio''s needle one is easy to understand, I heard of an odd one where a gal couldn''t stand buttons, couldn''t have them on her clothes, would recoil in terror at buttons on other people, it made her life a misery.

This is another one - ESCALATORS, I hate them!

This is not one of my phobias, but my daughter''s yellow rubber boot got caught in the side of an escalator when she was a toddler. I couldn''t get it loose or get her out of the boots as we went inexorably downwards. I screamed, loudly, for help. Since no one stopped the escalator, I was very lucky she came unstuck before the end of the line! I have a healthy respect for escalators.

That must have been TERRIFYING to the extreme Deb

I am so glad she was ok, horrible things they are , just proves I am not nuts to hate them the way I do.

Strawberries...well, whole ones, anyway.

When I was a little kid I bit into a strawberry and found half a worm! (presumably I''d eaten the other half..
14.gif
...to this day I can''t eat a strawberry without cutting it in half and examining it first.

(I''m so glad to hear that I''m not the only one who hates big, dusty, fluttery moths..)

hahah the bee story was funny though lorelei.. simply because I think I gave my mom a heart attack, and im not exactly small chested.. so I had to find the bee ... it was funny.. I think the fact that I knew a bee had flown down my shirt is what made me scream..
(I scream as my mom is trying to make a left turn on a fairly busy street)..hahaha.
she was like MICHELLE!!! haha..

HOLY MOLY widget, your story of strawberries has now affected me.. ewweeweweweww....
I will forever more cut each strawberry. hehe.
(I guess this could be a good thing)

and Lorelei. I can''t even imagine dealing with cockroaches.. they are disgusting.. whenever they are "in season" we get a whole bunch here.. they make the grosses sound when you "smoosh" them.
ewe.
they are sick sick sick. hehe

Have you read Henry and Mudge and the Bedtime Thumps? If not, you MUST! (This goes for all of you who hate moths, particularly those of you who hate moths and love dogs as widget does, though!)

I will look out for that book Deb. Sparkly my roach experience was 12 years ago and I still shiver when I think of it

DEEP WATER.

When I was 7, my parents put me in swim lessons at the local high school. The instructors were so mean. After a few days they had us use the kickboard and go from the shallow end to the deep end with the board, and then they would help us out of the pool at the end. It was the first time we had gone near the deep end, and I had never been in water yet that was so deep my feet could not touch the ground when i stood up in it.

About halfway down the length of the pool, the teacher grabbed my kickboard away, apparently thinking our reflex would just be to keep on swimming/kicking? well i did...until i realized i had no kickboard anymore and I started to sink. And could not touch the bottom since it was like 8'' deep. I FREAKED out. They had to jump in and get me or in my panic i surely would have drowned. After that, I refused to go back. I kicked myself for years for not giving swimming another try because I had never learned, and would go to pools or places with friends and never could join in the fun. i felt like a freak but was too scared to try. For years and even today I have had countless dreams of drowning, suffocating from the water, jumping in pools and cant touch the bottom, having tidal waves of water come over my head...its awful.

32.gif

2 years ago, when DH and I were dating we went to visit his family in FL. His aunt has a pool, so he was determined to help me conquer my fear. We started off slowly and eventually he put a life jacket on me so i could "float" in the deep end and get the feeling of my feet dangling and not touching the bottom. eventually i jumped in the deep end and realized I could tread water! and swim. yay!It was such an accomplishment for me. However, I still get very nervous in water, and I doubt it will ever 100% go away.

I still will only go in a controlled environment, such as a pool with goggles on :) but lakes, etc still freak me out. You never know when you can be walking in water and then boom, the depth changes...**shudder*** I still freak out walking near bodies of water, etc...

Good for you PunchNpie for conquering your fear, it takes a lot of courage
36.gif
36.gif
Now me and moths I doubt it....

I am afraid of clowns....they are the spawn of satan as far as I''m concerned.
23.gif

I''m also afriad of flying ants....ants having wings is just wrong.
32.gif

Spiders and being trapped.

I used to have a recurring dream that I''d be lying in bed and a giant insect (GIANT) was buzzing around near the ceiling over me. Just lying in bed, and anticipating the giant insect dropping down on me, would make me wake up yelling and thrashing around. I''d be totally disoriented, and it would usually take my partner several minutes to calm me down, turn on the lights, and convince me there is no giant bug. I can still remember him saying patiently, "Kim, there is no giant bug." Me, confused, "There isn''t?" I have no idea where that dream came from as I don''t consider myself particularly afraid of insects, and I don''t have the dream often anymore, but I''ve had the same dream a total of maybe 15 times. And it gets me everytime.

Needles for the purpose of extraction (not injection)

Just the thought of an amniocentesis makes me want to pass out (and I''ve never had one)

It takes me 30 minutes to provide a blood sample because my pressure goes down from feeling faint

I am terrified of heights. Which is ironic, considering I live on the 32nd floor of my building. I feel very safe in my apartment, but I would never go out on a terrace if I had one.

I have done everything to conquer my fear, but nothing has worked.

Other minor fears:

Fear of flying. I will do it, but I really don''t like to. Turbulance makes me absolutely insane. I''m one of those white knuckle people you see on planes.

Fear of stairs. I think this is probably related to the height thing. I have a huge problem walking up stairs that have spaces in between them. If I''m completely enclosed, I feel okay usually. Walking down stairs usually always freaks me out. If it''s two to 10 steps, I''m okay. But if they are high up, or anything more than that number, I have to take deep breaths and hold on to both railings.

All of this, and absolutely nothing to cause it!

I have several fears, some irrational, some not.
2.gif

The big, huge, freaking bird-sized cockroaches in Texas that FLY....holy mother of God - after being in a room with one I never want to go back to that state, EVER.

Being buried alive. Not likely to happen, but it freaks me the hell out...and it seems there's been a lot of that in the movies and tv lately - or at least any movie or CSI episode that Quentin Tarantino is in charge of.
32.gif

Overflowing toilets. Freaks me out to no end. Very rarely have I ever seen this happen, but it's extremely traumatizing and the thought of it makes my stomach churn.

And definitely - those big hairy dusty moths with the humungous bodies are definitely on the list.
And of course bees - I'm deathly afraid, even of those 5 pounder carpenter bees that supposedly don't sting.

I have a fear of being hurt when swimming under a boat or especially a large ship.
Either by the propeller or just the bottom of the boat.

I drive over a huge bridge in the Port of Los Angeles frequently.
Below I can see huge cruise ships.
At the bow, just under the waterline, I can see these huge bulbous parts of the ship that jut out in front.
Their function must be to reduce drag or for radar.

They just freak me out.
I can''t rationalize this.

My house catching on fire in the middle of the night. I have so many smoke detectors it''s not even funny. I also fear that my boiler will explode. I will not even turn it on for the year (I don''t care how cold it is) until it has been cleaned and inspected. I guess they both relate to one thing: How will I get both of my children out unhurt? That deep down is my true fear. Not being able to save my children if they are in danger.
