So how does this look? The ebay listing showed some miligrain detail which is not on this ring. Also it showed double prongs which I don't have. Both are things I can live with. I was mainly concerned with fit. What do you think?

VERY pretty! I like that it's fairly simple (but still blingy) so the focus is on that amazing stone... already one of my PS favorites.

Thanks my goal was to keep the focus on the stone. Less bling. I was debating between this setting or one where the stone would be flanked with a single baguette

I think it looks very nice! You may want to ask why no millegrain or the double prongs though, especially if you paid to have those details.

Thanks TL. I have to admit I was kinda waiting to see what you thought. I feel you were one of the people who really "held my hand" through my first gemstone purchase. Thanks. I am off to find a jeweler to set it next week.

It's gorgeous, cemrn! Too bad about the millegrain, that would have been icing on the cake, but it's still really pretty. I can't wait to see your pictures once the stone is set

Is it LOGR or lan.bo4 (sp?) ?

LAN.BO4 I never thought of mentioning he make it the way it was in the picture. I assumed he would do that. I was spending my efforts on making sure he had measurements. Do you think I should ask the setter to shave down the prongs? Here was the listing

I would ask to have the prongs shaved down a little, I don't see why you couldn't but I'm pretty green re. having stones set. Someone with more experience will likely contribute. It does look really nice the way it is. I love the side view of the pavillion :lickout:

cemrn, that stone will look very pretty in the setting, great job for a first project. I would personally ask for a partial discount/refund for the milgrain and double prongs not being there-I think it is important to hold this vendor to bit higher standard instead of just living with mistakes you may have paid $ for ::)
I also agree the prongs may need some refining during setting.

The setting looks so lovely - it'll look fab once your beautiful stone is set! :appl:
I hope you could resolve issues re the prongs and milgrain with the seller.

I think that your asscher looks GREAT in the setting :appl: Remember to post some hand shots when its set! Do remember to remind your benchman that its around 7-7.5 on the moh scale:)

I think you are correct. I did just send him an email pointing out the 2 differences on the ring. Showed him is ebay photo and sent 2 of my photos. I told him I intended to keep the ring and requested a partial refund since this is not the ring I ordered. We will see what happens. I still am happy with the style of the ring. I wanted something that looking down would be not very bling and focus on the tourmaline. It is maybe a bit too plain without the miligrain and double prongs. I wanted a nice profile which I think is achieved.

I think it's a lovely setting. However, I also agree that if it isn't as specified the vendor should know about it and compensate you for it.

It is a very pretty setting, but one of the reasons I'm so hesitant with lan.b04 and his many stores, is that I always hear stories of modifications getting not properly done. I'm the type of person that orders lots of modifications, so that pretty much has given me an aversion towards his settings. I think the communication thing needs to be fixed on his end.

Agreed. I was mostly worried about having it not fit and needing to send it back. His customization fees are so much less ($25 for this setting) However a customer should get what they order. I will try LOGR next time and update an outcome.

Lovely setting and beautiful stone! :appl:

Lan.bo4 replied and they asked me to return the setting to double prong it and add the miligrain. I really don't want to send it back
1. I don't want to pay to ship it back. 2. I don't really want to wait for it to be redone.
I haven't responded yet I am still thinking about how to respond............

Ugh! That's a tough call. On the one hand, you did say you could live without the millegrain and the double prongs and that the fit of the stone was the most important thing to you. But then on the other hand, you're paying for things that weren't done. They're at fault so it seems to me that they should be providing you with the refund since that's what you're saying would make you happy...

The lack of millegrain and the single prongs would bug me so much that I would send it back. It's part of the ring's charm. I guess if I were you I would ask again for the refund, pointing out again that they were at fault and that this is the solution that would satisfy you.
Hope this helps.

urgh how frustrating-I would politely explain that you do not wish to take the time, money and risk to send it back but that you are still not content the setting doesnt match the order/example. Based on this I would ask them again to offer you a partial refund and see what the reply is. If they still dont reply favourably, I would link to this thread and mention reputation/feedback. I do not believe in using feedback to bribe vendors unfairly, but I have seen somewhat of a pattern with the Chinese ebay setting manufacturers; they likely realise most O/S buyers wont want the hassle of sending stuff back and will just accept/live with the mistakes. As I mentioned in another current thread, these sellers are gaining alot of new business from PS exposure and have often raised their prices - I think its important they should also realise PS can act as a double edged sword. I do know for the most part you are happy with your setting and you should be it looks great with your gem - but for the reasons mentioned and your happiness in your own transaction I would attempt to make them responsible on your terms.

Cern,
You HAVE to share with us pictures after the stone is set. It is blingtastic and looks just fine even without the milgrain and double prongs, although you should contact the seller to find out why he dropped the ball on that. I like the idea of a partial refund so you don’t have to worry about shipping the ring back and all. I would explain about the cost of shipping, risk and time involved with a return and strongly prefer a partial refund over a return and remake.
