I've decided to take a first hand look at the greenish yellow chrysoberyls that some have had luck finding. I know this one has some drawbacks, but it wasn't expensive.

I'm looking at setting it in this black gold mounting from a newer ebay vendor, Royal Jeweller. They are customizing and upgrading for an $85 fee. What do you think about this unique color mounting?

I'm dying to see this chrysoberyl, but I can't see pictures on PS2 in my browser at work. Can you send the ebay link? Dying to see which one you got.

Uppy I'm really not sure but that's just because I haven't seen that gold colourway so I can't be sure how it would look. My reaction when I read your post was that Chrysoberyl is so incredibly sparkly that when you put it with white gold it just seems to shine even more so would the black have the adverse reaction and soak up the sparkliness? Have you seen a similar combo before? I'm going to be intrigued by this one! Please make sure you update when you've got both together won't you?

Did you post a photo of the black gold mounting in your post above? Because if you did, I can't see it either. :blackeye:

It's not the work internet that's the problem. Other websites and forums work fine, I don't understand why this one does not. Thanks for the link!!

Please do not put it in there!! Uppy, I think the setting looks like of dingy and it's not very attractive IMHO, but I see what you're trying to get at. You probably want to make the stone pop by surrounding it with dark metal. Unfortunately, that just looks tarnished and not very attractive to me. I would do 14K yellow gold to lessen the brown and bring out the green and yellow more.

I'm looking for something modern and different than the typical. I don't want formal and halo'd. That's one of the reasons this one looked attractive. Cutomization can include the head being yellow gold while the setting stays this dark rhodium finish. In your opinion would that still be dingy?

I see the effect you're looking for, and I think it could be really dramatic and lovely. What I'm not sure of is whether that is the right setting to get that effect without seeing it IRL. Have you seen settings with that kind of treatment, and did they have stones set in them? I would be less concerned if your chrysoberyl had a little less green in it, it might blend rather than pop. That's my 2 cents worth, whatever you decide to do I will really be looking forward to seeing it!

Well, for those who don't like the black gold, I've found this east/west mounting. What do you think of this one?

Well, I think people can guess what I'm going to say. I LOVE IT!!! Yellow gold head and white gold shank???

Uppy, I kind of liked the first setting, after looking a couple of times. I do also like the second one you posted, but isn't that what you said you didn't want?

It looks like it's been sitting in a jewelry box for 100 years collecting tarnish. I understand there are some really nice dark gold finishes, but this is not one of them. I once saw a bronze pearl surrounded by champagne diamonds in a black gold ring, and it was lovely. I don't know what it is, but this just looks dingy. :knockout:

That being said, I do like the style of it, just not the "tarnish" so to speak. Could it be that this is just oxidized metal, and the one I saw was a special black gold alloy???

I can do that first setting in any color gold. I do like the idea of the loose, free, wrap of diamonds. What color?

14K yellow gold??

I like this one. It is different.

I like the shape of the first one the best, if you want something different. I'd do yellow gold, that would look amazing.

I like the design of the first one, it's different. I do not like the color of the metal though

+ 1 for the first design :twirl: The color of your chrysoberyl looks yummy too!

TL, that's wonderful! It is really reminiscent of the first setting I liked but with a more finished look. Thank you!!

And it's so affordable. I should get it. I have a pink spinel that would look awesome in there. Glad you like it.
