As @Stone Hunter suggested, I opened a new thread to look for a setting for my umbalite garnet.
As this stone is a special cut - it's not really a cushion, rather some kind of octagonal shape - I asked Jeff, if I should look for a setting for a round or a cushion. and he told me, a setting for a round would be suitable.
If you have an idea for a setting under 350 USD, please, just don't hold back, I'm interested. I think, I would like it more in white gold, as I alreay have a pink tourmaline in rose gold. On the other hand I invite every umbalite garnet owner to post their settings, as I'm really indecisive, what I should go for.
I have looked at Chinese sellers on eBay, and I just had a look at Ivy and Rose. I really love their settings, as I love the vintage feel, but I don't know, if I should put this stone in a most possible open setting, or not. People, who own garnets, what is better? An open setting, or a more closed basket?

Im contemplating following setting‘s from Ivy and Rose:

What is your opinion?

Does your stone have a high crown? If so,I would want longer and heavier prongs. LOGR tends to make very lightweight settings.

This is my experience as well (though its been several years since I've purchased from them).

Hi, thank you. Just realized that the eBay seller called “mydiamond zone” is Ivy and Rose :appl:
I love their settings.

No, this is stone is quite flat, no high crown.

Regarding LOGR: I have only bought a band from them, what I really like, so I have no experience with their semi mounts. I know, there were several people here, who have bought from him the Tiffany inspired settings, and they seem a good quality for me.

On the other hand I like the settings from Ivy and Rose much better, I just don't know, how the stone is going to behave in a vintage kind setting.

I have a lot of LOGR settings and many I purchased early, before the price of gold skyrocketed from $400/oz to over $1k. At that time, their mountings were very heavy and solid. After the rise in gold, the settings became more flimsy. I haven't purchased an LOGR in years, but those early pieces of mine are gorgeous, and have beautiful diamonds too. The diamonds also went downhill unless you paid to upgrade. Hopefully their quality isn't still as poor.

I also have that same exact setting from Ivy and Rose, but I got it on eBay from another dealer, and it's in silver. I think I paid around $20 for it, and I actually have a Rodalite Garnet In it, but it's round. The octagon shape of the setting might not exactly fit your octagon. I used silver to save a lot of money because my store wasn't very expensive. Although it's silver, there are several prongs to hold the stone in so I'm not worried about the metal. It does make my garnet look almost black though, so I'm not very happy with it in there.

Under 350 USD is going to be tough right now due to the price of gold. Remember you might have to add a setting fee to the cost of the mounting.

And of course there is the worry about darkening the stone. An old trick is to wrap it in tin foil to see how a bezel or closed basket will make the stone look. I like the vintage style settings especially that last one you listed in the OP. The swirl solitaire.

I also like this one, vintage but not so flowery. https://ivyandrose.com/products/art...-mount-filigree-engraving-engagement-ring-14k
