Hi,

My mom gave me most of her jewelry and I'm planning to remount most of the stones over time into pieces that more represent my style. . .one piece I have is a emerald cut citrine with two side diamonds, square baguettes around .20 each. I'm looking for a new setting and what I'm wondering is for a DARK ORANGE citrine, should I mount this with yellow prongs or would white prongs be okay? I'd love an antique looking ring and have no idea where to find a yellow gold one, so this is why I ask. There's tons of white gold rings but yellow seem nearly nonexistant in the premade rings category (and custom is just too much hassle for me right now) lol I want EASY and don't want to hunt around for a competent jeweler .

What do you all think about the prong issue?

Thanks,
Michelle

And here is a deep orange sapphire in white Michelle.

Gee... the one in the pic is certainly going to take up much more than the little citrine ! It would be rather unusual to spend 1000 times more ont he setting than the stone, although I certainly know such cases (myself ! ).

This shouldn't be such Hell: I would certainly use yellow metal for this one and an open setting, 'cause the material is not all that brilliant. Lets see... The one potential source of toule would be the stone's size: you could find much more easily a ready-made setting if this si standard ('calibrated') size. What are the (ruller and compas would do) measurements?

Michelle,
Try this site for nice inexpensive reproduction pieces.

Most of these rings are cast from molds made from old period pieces, so they're fairly light weight and low cost.

Opps,,seems in my late night posting of the pics I forget to mention they were just for the purpose of seeing a dark orange stone in a white setting. I am not that insane to think a citrine in a Leon Mege is going to happen,,,lol.

If my citrine was to be set in a Leon Mege design, I'd have to say it'd be a dream come true! lol The ring you posted is truely delicious.

Val - The size of the stone is approx. 5 X 6.

I like those filigree settings on that web site, very nice. But they seem to be out of a lot of the styles at this time.
