So my SO and I have started to take the plunge on looking for rings! I'm very excited about this but am having a lot of different thoughts pertaining to settings. I have a couple different options and I need some votes! The diamond will be a 1 ct Emerald cut. Should I wait and just get a temporary setting until I can figure out what I want for sure or get something a little less temporary, but still is inexpensive enough to still change in the future. If you can't tell, I'm feeling very torn!

1.) Set the emerald cut in a basic solitaire setting and save for futures upgrades! (this I love because it showcases the diamond)

2.) Set the emerald cut in a pave setting to have a little more bling! (this I love because it gives me a little more bling and who doesn't love that?)

3.) Set the emerald cut in a halo - obviously this makes the diamond appear larger! (I love halos! but this is a trend that I'm not sure how long it will last, nor how long I will love it)

I would go for a pave, personally. It's classic, pretty, and it won't feel like a "temp" setting when you start showing it off. :cheeky: Not to say a simple solitaire can only be a temp setting. They're beautiful in their own right. But if that's the only reason you'd get one, then I'd just get a little more bling to make it feel more like a finished ring and not just a stone in a band that you'll replace as soon as you possibly can. Lol.

Have you gone to any places to try these different styles out? Everyone is different and some styles look better depending your finger size, hand size, etc. I love solitaires, but I've also seen haloed emeralds that are TDF (Tacori settings always have a special place in my heart for these!). I'm not a huge fan of pave, but again it depends on the person! I think you should try on these styles in person and see which one speaks to you. If you're still indecisive, I don't think it hurts to go with something simple and change it up later when you're sure you know what you want. Please post pictures of these rings if you try them on!!! Best of luck!

I've been to a few local jewelry stores to look but have only looked at solitaires and halos in the past few months... I love pave bands but I think I've been shying away from them because my first engagement was a ring that had pave. I really don't want to get a ring from my SO that reminds me of my ex-fiance! I guess thats why a few months ago, I thought of just getting a delicate, detailed wedding band as my engagement ring, but I realized I would probably regret this in the future. Should I go try on more pave bands in person and see if it congers up anything? or am I being crazy and I should get what I love?

You should get what you love. It's not like you are using the diamond from the previous relationship! I really doubt anyone will care that both of them have pave... Lots of rings have pave, it's in right now!

I would go with a solitaire setting and pair it with a pave wedding band.

Definitely something I didn't think about! I really like this idea! hmm - for in the future when DSS kicks in, it'll be about the time I'll be getting actually married and then I can add to it...

Have you tried on any settings with tapered baguettes for sides? I know it wasn't one of your original choices, but I've always loved that kind of setting for an emerald and it would add a little bling to your ring without being too similar to your last ring or being a "trendy" halo. I also love solitaires paired with pave wedding bands, but I thought the tapered baguette setting might be an option for you.

This is Blackpaw's thread with her emerald and tapered baguette ring. https://www.pricescope.com/forum/sh...s-emerald-cut-engagement-ring-t165804-30.html

I love this idea, I like the look of "sharper" center stones in settings that also have corners

I'm not a huge emerald fan but love the tacori halo with the emerald cut! I'd get what you like, you can always change years later. ;)

Get what you LOVE!!!! The old ring is long gone (or if not, it's not like it's going to be worn!) so start this relationship with a ring that makes you happy - regardless of it being a pave setting or not! If it's going to be on your finger for the rest of your life, get the one that makes you smile the most! I'm sure SO may have some thoughts too...

(And... there is always the little issue of .... sssshhh!!! ... UPGRADING!!!!  )

I love emerald cut stones paired with paved- halo or just on the band. The two different types of sparkle and flash love great together :)

Thank you all for your help! We're in the process of ordering the diamond! I'm getting the diamond from james allen and they will pay for me to ship it back to them when I finally pick out my setting! It's a great perk and gives me more time to figure out what I want! I'm 90% sure I'm going for the pave! I'll post pictures ASAP!
