Setting quality question

Hi!

just received our engagement ring in the new setting and wanted to get some opinions on the quality. I did the “design studio” with James Allen and decided on a 6 prong tulip/scallop setting. The rendering seemed to show it all as one solid/integrated piece, but there’s a stump or connection point - not sure how to describe it.

My question is whether this looks typical or whether it’s cause for concern.

Thank you!

If you mean the "circle" piece at the bottom of the "head", it's very common. I usually hear people here refer to it as a "donut" but I'm sure thats not the technical term, lol.

I have seen the donut - which IMO is the technical term ;) - but this looked a little different to me so I wanted to make sure it was ok/common. Thanks for your help!!

I think it only looks different because it's a super close up view. I think my ring (which has a similar solitaire design) would look similar, though I'm not 100% sure

Usually the bottom of the donut rests against the finger... i.e. it is integrated with the shank on the same plane. On your ring, the basket (with the donut) appears attached on top of the shank. I don't believe I have ever seen it done this way.

Could you post a picture from the perspective that is 90 degrees from this one, and not on your finger? Also, is the ring all one metal, or is the shank a different metal than the basket?

Can you post the rendering as well?

Yes this was my concern. I’ve seen the donut but it’s all the way through. This is just two pieces soldered together. The shank is rose gold and the head is platinum

Aaaah ok, I'm sorry. I didnt look at it correctly before. Others are right that most designs have the donut connected to the shank (integrated) whereas yours is kind of stuck on top. I worry that yours is less secure. Since the rendering didnt show the donut at all, I would contact JA and ask them to change it. This Is their 6 prong solitaire in which the design it in the "normal" way where its integrated: https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...fe-edged-solitaire-engagement-ring-item-22590

Is it just me or is the prong on the right in the first photo super asymmetrical? Like longer/wonky?

I posted the same photo in Reddit and it got some attention. I think I just took it was light slope. Here’s a D4328EE5-501E-4EFA-81FC-5A87CD6556B3.jpeghead on photo. I don’t see any issues with the prongs. Do you still?

Thanks. Yeah, I looked at other photo reviews from customers and they are 100% integrated. They all got what they asked for / what was advertised. Im going to raise it with customer service. Thanks for your help

Ugh. You’re right. I really examined it thoroughly and the head is totally wonky and not aligned properly with the shank. Sigh. Will be getting this replaced one way or another. Thanks, all :(

Hi guys! Thanks so much for confirming my suspicions about my previous setting.. I ended up sending the ring back, and James Allen agreed and remade the ring. What does everyone think? Any noticeable issues I should bring up?
