If you had to choose between:

a setting that you absolutely loved, and looked nice with your diamond, but made your diamond look a little smaller or

a setting that you liked, but looked great with your diamond and made your diamond look bigger,

which would you choose?

Basically, I have a gorgeous, unusual, but thicker setting that makes a stone look a bit smaller, and a setting that's more typical, but really makes a diamond pop and look huge. I can't decide if I should focus on the whole look, or the main diamond. Am I making sense?

What do you guys think?

I think I''m in the minority here at PS, but I vote for the overall look. I think much too much emphasis is placed on the "bigness" of the stone, when what you''re wearing is the ring. It''s the entire impression that counts, IMO, and if you''ve found a setting that you love, I say go for it.

I''d choose the one that I absolutely loved. You''re going to have this for the rest of your life, if you get something that you don''t love, you''ll start to not like it at all.

Since I found the setting of my dreams a little over a week ago, I say go for the setting you L-O-V-E. I think the over all look is more important personally. That way, in the future, if a "upgrade" is in order, you will still love the setting.

That''s my .02 ... do you have pictures of said settings?

I think you should go with something you really LOVE. Does it really matter if your stone doesn''t look as big as with the other setting, if you really love it?

Setting you love hands down! You love this setting, and you sound like you love it with your stone. Sounds perfect to me. Size is not everything.
.

Very difficult decision, but I would have to agree with everyone here. Go with the setting you absolutely love. The stone will always be the same one, but you may regret not choosing the setting you love as time goes on. Does that make sense? Sorry, kind of hard to explain what I''m thinking exactly.

Thanks, everyone! That''s the way I was kinda leaning also, but I was having trouble with the decision. Unfortunately, I won''t have pics of the setting until it''s on my finger because the manufacturer doesn''t have a website. It''s a thicker (maybe 3/3.5 mm) platinum solitare with milgraining detail in a wave-like pattern with small melee set in the middle of each wave. It''s so hard to describe. It looks kind of antiquish, which I was looking for because my stone is an OEC.

My only qualm isn''t so much about making my stone look smaller, but that the intricacy of the band pattern takes away from the pattern of the OEC a little because there''s so much going on. But I do absolutely love the setting, it mesmerizes me and looks like someone made lace out of diamonds and ice. I might be able to find a sketch of it...

This is all I can find. I''m sorry it''s so small, but it''s just a screenshot of a PDF...

Very pretty!

Get the setting you LOOOOOOVE. You''ll have the rest of your life to fill up your right hand with diamonds that look huge. :) God DID give us 10 fingers after all!! :)

Hahaha...good point!

Not sure if the BF will agree, but...

From what I can see, that setting looks delicate and perfect.

So unique.

Setting you love! Hands down!

setting you love. no doubt about it.

Option A. You should love the overall look! Unless you hate that it makes your diamond look smaller, then go for it!

Setting you love, no question. And that setting is gorgeous!

Well, having done option B (nice setting but not loving it) I am now doing option A. The setting I liked did make the stone pop, but I wasn''t happy with the overall look, so I am now changing to a setting that will make the center look a bit smaller but I am happier with the entire ring.

Go for what you love.

I agree with them JD, go with what you love. You''re not just going to be staring at the diamond forever, but also the setting. Love it.

I just called the jeweler and told him that I really wanted that setting (the one I love), so he''s going to show it to my BF and see if he likes it too. If he does, well, then, I guess we''ve got a setting! Let''s keep our fingers crossed that he''s totally in love with it too!!!

What a unique setting! I think once you have it you will be glad you went with the unique one for the overall look of the ring, and you won''t be seeing it on anyone else. If you love it, you should have it! Ditto to what everyone else said about possibly upgrading the stone later if the size really does bother you...

Oh, no, I'll never upgrade the diamond. It's unique as can be too...an OEC.

Actually, it's more than I ever dreamed of getting. I know he's really proud to be able to get me a bigger stone, so I don't want to be cheating him by making it look smaller. But, I think it won't be a problem once he sees how much I love it!!!

Holy Moly!! That''s going to be some ring!! I don''t think there is such a thing as making that stone look smaller. I still say go with the setting you loooove.

SeattleSparkle, your dog is absolutely adorable!!! What breed(s) is (s)he? I have a few of my own, but I could make more room for one that cute!!! :)

go with what you love.
