Hi,

I received this setting today and hoped to set my spinel into it but I’m not sure what it should look like if the stone fits properly so I’m hoping someone can weigh in. Is it supposed to sit up this high or is the stone too big? The guidelines for this setting said a 6.5-7.2 round or cushion and this is 6.8 round. Before I try to find a local jeweler to set it I thought you all might have an opinion. The depth is 5.1. I’m wondering if a jeweler can set it lower. It’s a pretty setting and stone. It looks at the moment like you don’t have notches in the prongs. When it’s actually set a little of the metal on the inside of the prong can be carved out to “seat” your stone properly before the prongs are bent over. This will allow the stone to settle lower into the head of the setting.

The setting looks really beautiful for that stone btw. The colour of the gold compliments the spinel perfectly.

Your stone seems to be deep, and have a high crown. Stones with high crowns are always worrisome when set. I would ask a jeweler, because if it sits too high up in the setting, it won’t be secure.

Depth is a very important factor when considering any setting, not just a calibrated one

The setting looks like a good match for your stone. From the side view, there seems to be space around and below so I imagine it can be set a bit lower.
