When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.
-Maya Angelou.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness- Mark Twain

Whatever you fight, you strengthen, and what you resist, persists-

Yes, thank you for adding the Maya Angelou quote. It is another of my favorites. And not as easy to do as one might think but I am definitely skilled at this one now. Experience is a good teacher and I think for many it takes time to embrace that truth. Pay attention when someone shows you who they truly are. I did not always do this. Because I did not want to believe what they were showing me. I paid the price. And goodness knows I sure do pay attention now and I believe them when they do finally show me who they really are. I always say "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" Amen

It's a really hard lesson to learn.
Easy to say, but difficult to put into practice.
I once worked with a supervisor who told me early on that she was mean. I thought she was joking. I kept trying to see the good in her, but she was telling the truth.
One year later, I jumped at the chance to quit that job to get away from her.

OK, so I'll be the obnoxious pedant. There seems to be no evidence that Einstein said this. See Quote Investigator:

Truth matters! Wise and witty sayings are just as wise and witty without being falsely attributed to wise and witty people.

"Don't believe everything you see on the net. Especially quote attributions." Anon.

I haven't lived up to it yet, but Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (worth it just for her name) said:

"Fig Leaves are as necessary for our Minds as for our Bodies, and 'tis as indecent to shew all we think as all we have."

Mark Twain was once short on cash and embarked on a speaking tour of NZ
this is what he said about my Scottish ancestors, early settlers of Dunedin, my home town- brings a wee tear to my eye every time i quote it

"They stopped here on their way from home to heaven - thinking they had arrived.".

Life moves pretty fast.

Pleasing taste. Some monsterism.

The internet?! Is that still around?

A committee is a gathering of important people who singly can do nothing but together can decide that nothing can be done.

The best alpinists are the ones with the worst memory.

All who drink of this remedy recover in a short time except those in whom it does not help, who all die. Therefore it is obvious that it fails only in incurable cases.

Give a man a gun and he can rob a bank. Give a man a bank and he can rob the world.

Common sense is not so common.

Happy wife, happy life.
Happy spouse, happy house.

yes, this is so true. And I keep reminding my dh about it too hahaha

As for common sense not being so common that is also so true...what on earth is happening to people? Many are so easily brainwashed and cannot think for themselves. It would be funny if it were not so tragic. And if they were not so adamant about their misinformation. SMH

Whoever said it though it still rings true.
Unfortunately stupidity has no limits and I see it daily on a regular basis.
The person who first said it was very wise

"Many people are stupid. Once you understand this, the world begins to make sense."

(I don't know who originally said it).

Haha yes. I often feel we are living in the Twilight Zone. Mainly due to the ignorance (and yes stupidity) of people.

HI:

"If you are going through hell, keep going". And mostly everything else WC said.

As in my signature, as said to me by my late partner:

Treat life events like a dog: if you can't eat it, play with it or hump it, then p!$$ on it and walk away.
