I may be shipping jewelry to England, about $4000 value. I know it should be insured. That’s a no brainer. Does anyone have advice on what would be the safest venue..FedEx, International postal of some other kind? Should I ship it in a larger box, so it doesnt scream “small and valuable “? What worked for you? What didn’t?

Shipping Internationally with insurance is normally no problem. Obviously a decent size box is essential, double boxing works best.
The issue may be the Customs and Vat your buyer will pay to import plus processing fees. Provided your buyer is aware that certain taxes will apply and be payable before they receive their item, no problem. Your buyer should check what these extra costs first.
However, if you insure the package for $4,000 you shouldn’t then describe it as something very cheap ie Costume Jewellery $30. There are potential big fines and problems all round if you get caught out.

Thanks Bron357,
I appreciate your response. I suppose truth in labeling will protect me too, if I need to file an insurance claim? Hope it doesn’t come to that of course!

Just a heads up. US postal service takes forever to EU. I have had two parcels on the road for 6 months, so they would not be my first choice. On the good side, they did arrive.

I’ve been a recipient of jewellery from the US and agree USPS are dire. FedEx have been the best by far.

Wow. Was it sent global priority? And it still took that long? That’s the method. I would recommend if you were going to ship overseas is global priority.

Pirateship usually offers big discounts for UPS international. You can purchase insurance there as well

Shipped a ring from US to UK recently with USPS, and package was delivered within 10 days. Would have preferred FedEx or DHL, but their quotes were $$$.

Thanks. That’s reassuring. FedEx is so $$$$. I will probably be using USPS.
