Should a 1mm plat spacer be ordered slightly smaller?

I'm hoping that all the owners of thin spacers might be able to chime in with their experiences.
Sorry if this topic has already been answered, I've scoured the forum without success.

I have one of Victor Caneras beautiful Emylia halos and he is making me the eternity band to match. I don't know how often I'll wear the eternity band with my halo and so I'm ordering the 1mm plat spacer to minimize any rubbing between the two.
I actually really like the look of the bands not sitting together

My halo is sized at a 5 which fits beautifully and just snuggly enough to prevent it from spinning.
I'm thinking that I'd like to get the full eternity band made as either a size 5.25 or 5.5 as I'd like to err on the side of caution as I know these can't be resized.

I'm not sure however what size to order the 1mm plat spacer??
Considering its so thin, should I have it made in a size 5 the same as my Emylia or say a 5.25?
Will the fact that it's so thin make it seem even larger?

What has everyone else done?

I wasn't sure about the rules with spacers either, I ordered mine in the same size as my other rings. It only arrived yesterday and fits fine.

One question I'd like to ask (sorry to hijack your thread) is if 1mm is enough? I've got a BGD dream half eternity and just the cheapie 6 prong white gold knife edge setting from James Allen. I don't know if my spacer needs a bit more height to stop them touching. It does stop them from rubbing but they will still touch a little from time to time.

I am afraid that if your spacer is a 5 then the 5.5 wedding band will slide right over it. I would strongly suggest having Victor leave a small sizing area that they engrave to look like the rest of the wedding band. My daughter has an eternity made by Maytal Hannah and she did that, and it is worth it because you never know if you'll need a size different than you make it at this time. I would do 5.25 for the wedding band for sure assuming your e-ring is loose now in the winter. I think the spacer can't be too low, but I'd make it 5 1/8 maybe to try to keep the wedding band from slipping over it.

I have the Emilya in a size 6. My eternities are a size 6.5 and my 1mm spacer is a 6. Here is a pic for reference.

I would just keep the spacer as the same as the Emilya. I had mine made on Etsy. It was only $220 from June Designs in PLAT so if I have an issue with it later on down the road I will just have her make another one.

I personally like the size 6 spacer because I want a snug fit to ensure my rings don't rub on each other too much.

I ordered my spacer in the same size as my rings - I did not add or subtract anything. Mine is a twisted RG band and it is about 1.2/1.4mm thick.

GOD I LOVE THAT SAPPHIRE RING.

Thank you Ame. When I was narrowing down my collection I came close to putting it up on DB, but I just can't seem to part with it. So I decided to stack it with my set and ended up loving the look! Still kicking myself for not getting the emerald and ruby version when I had the chance.

JBEG has one of their designs that I am in love with thats similar. I want it. BADLY. Just a little narrower than it comes. But I'd never wear it enough.

HI:

I had an old 1mm plat wedding ring that was a full size larger than my left ring finger and I had no issues in wearing it as a spacer. Personally I don't like finger cleavage so I wouldn't get it smaller, especially if you are going to wear multiple rings.

cheers--Sharon

 I also have a 1mm spacer, and I ordered it for the same size as my set. If you get a smaller size and have a groove on your finger from your set currently, it will just fall into the groove.

Thanks everyone,

Diamondseeker, I hadn't thought of the eternity slipping over the spacer, but good point, cause that would drive me nuts.

Sarahbear, your stack looks fantastic and such a lovely compliment to your set. Thanks so much for posting a photo.
I was interested to see that you ordered your eternity band in a full half size bigger than your Emylia.
My Emylia is a size 5 and as I mentioned before fits snugly enough to prevent spinning but not too tight in our recent blisteringly hot weather here in Sydney.

Yesterday I went into T &Co and tried on their Metro band which was fine and not noticeably too big in a size 5.5, leading me to think that I'll order my VC eternity band in a half size bigger as well. I'd much rather it be a bit too big than a bit too small.
Interestingly they measured my original wedding band which I now wear on my right hand at a size 5.25 and my other full eternity at a size 4.75...??!! (I should add that I'm left handed and that is my size is slightly larger on my left)

It seems that my ring sizes are all over the place and I haven't really noticed that much difference, Doh!!
My finger size lucky hasn't changed at all despite age and babies...my second bub, 3mths old, is cooing at me from his rocker as I write this.

I'm wondering if I could get the plat spacer made in the middle at 5.25 but I don't think they do quarter sizes.

nomissjane,

I use a spacer on my left hand on the knuckle side of the rings I wear because my rings are a little too big. Most are 8.25, which is a little large for my left ring finger, plus it's cold and I've lost a little weight. I have a spacer that is size 8 but it doesn't keep the rings from moving, so I just got one that is 7.75. It does a much better job of keeping the rings from slipping to my knuckle, but there's no way that the ring is going to slip over the spacer. I don't know how it would be with a half-size difference in your smaller ring size, but it definitely can't happen my larger size.
