Hi everyone,
I have been going round the houses with what to do with my loose diamond and have one more idea!
I’ve been trying to think it all through a bit more - what do I want to be able to wear daily etc… Ultimately my wedding set is mismatched which has always bothered me, I love both pieces individually but don’t think they sit well together. Initially, I was looking at creating a five stone with the loose diamond to wear with my wedding band and then also buying a slimmer band I can wear with my e-ring. However, this is essentially creating two separate wedding sets, whilst it would give me options to mix things up, ultimately I would never wear my set together again. I am quite a lazy jewellery wearer and tend to wear the same bits every day.
So, tell me if this is a silly idea. The prongs on my e-ring look a little wobbly anyway so I would want it looking at and sorting regardless. But it got me thinking maybe I combine my e-ring with the loose diamond to create a five stone? I have a couple of 3mm diamonds from a vintage brooch I can use. Or maybe just a three stone?
The only thing that may throws this off is that my diamond in my e-ring is a OEC and the loose diamond is a MRB. The loose diamond is from my original e-ring so has a lot of sentimental value, even though it’s not a great quality diamond. I would need to find a match somehow that is a lovely diamond but doesn’t outshine it. I’m hoping the fact that the diamonds are smaller mean that the OEC and MRBs would look ok together?
Also my husband is very sentimental so he may have the possible following reactions a) hate the idea as it means completely changing the design of the e-ring that he created for me, b) love that I want to combine both diamonds so they can sit together in one piece of jewellery.
Some pics so you know what I’m rabbiting on about! I would appreciate any advice or thoughts you have.
E-ring now with OEC 0.73ct centre (band 2mm)
Wedding ring with vintage diamonds 3mm wide, I like wearing this on its own at the moment
Both together - I feel the wedding ring is too wide and makes my diamond look smaller
Loose diamond 0.39ct
Vintage brooch with 3mm diamonds (around the pearl) against the 0.39ct loose, the diamonds in the bands on both my e-ring and wedding ring came from this brooch. There is an agreement to only use half the diamonds from this brooch and leave the remaining for my brother in law.
