Should I save up for this?

I found this pretty sapphire early this year and since I am beginning to save up for "THE sapphire," I was wondering what ya'll thought of this sapphire? I don't remember how many carats it is or what the size is, just that it's unheated, and set in platinum with diamonds. I don't remember if it's certified, and if it isn't I would send it to be. Ok, so by the time I saved up enough it might be sold already, but here's to hoping. It's $5500.

My biggest curiosity is what you think about the color. It's either this or a more "kashmir" looking sapphire.

Thanks in advance.

1st, do you like the color?

I guess I'm mostly asking if it's worth saving up for, among all the other stones I have in my wishlist. Also, what everyone else thinks of it. The setting is nice, but not really my thing. I love that it's platinum though. I might have to reset it.

It’s similar to my two so I’m biased in terms of liking the colour.
But you’ll be paying for the setting as well, do you like the setting too?
An obviously apart from a lab report, you really need to see it outside in natural light, ordinary office lighting etc. The lighting in jewellery stores is always amazing, they invest thousands of dollars in lighting to ensure their gems look magnificent. I wonder if it might look too dark when not in perfect lighting conditions? It also doesn’t seem to be “vivid” saturation, that’s usually preferred, it helps performance in less than ideal lighting.

Ah, thank you! Helpful tips as usual. I was at a stone/gem convention so it was the convention building's lighting and his own installed lights. I do like the setting, it's just too fancy/big for me. I would still wear it. Or unset and sell it. If I get to see it again I'll see if he'll let me see it outside.

Hmmm...I would personally prefer a silkier and brighter blue. This one looks like it'd be prone to blacking out in dim lighting.

For a better blue, I'd use @Acinom or @mpc gorgeous blue rings ad reference. Maybe you could contact Inken for Kashmir-esque sapphire?

Ah, yes their sapphires are gorgeous! Thank you, I will keep Inken in mind when it's time to make decisions and I've saved up (what's their website?).

If you're ambivalent about the setting I'd aim for another Sapphire.

While this one is really nice, it doesn't have that amazing velvety glow and I feel like you shouldn't waste part of the $5500 on a setting you're so so about.

If you loved it however then that's a different story provided everything checks out (insert boring usual quotes)

Thanks!

lol!

Thanks, I'm grateful for the feedback from everyone and any futures ones. My bf would just shrug and either say something not even remotely discouraging like "you already have a bunch of gems," or enabling like "well, if you really like it." Not helpful.

Too fancy / big! Never!
My motto is Always go fancy and big!
Seriously though, you could on sell the setting if you don’t like it. Mine I bought pre loved for just under $2,500 but it is fancy and big! Full finger coverage on a size 8 fingers takes some doing unfortunately.
I still haven’t actually “set” the sapphire, still debating....

Shijitake, I actually love the color of Inken's 4.25mm unheated sapphire over that $5500 sapphire, even though it's a fraction of the one that you've picked out. But I'm not a size whore, and you would know yourself best.

i love the setting ....but your not so keen

maybe this is your guide to what you actually want in a sapphire

It is a nice blue, but not the kind I would remember next year.

I actually think the setting is really unique & cool! but if it's not your bag, I would pass and save for a better sapphire individually.

I'm not a size whore either, definitely not into big settings. I like cute dainty rings. Especially since my hands are small (largest finger is size 5.5), I don't like my hands looking smaller, "overdressed", or just plain old wearing something too big and clunky for me. Plus since I have to wear such plain clothes this ring would stand out and look out of place lol.

I'd actually want this set as a pendant. But it seems the general consensus of the sapphire itself is "meh". I'll keep looking. Thank you all for the input!
