Hi All!

Kind of a crazy question...

Well, after months of searching for the ultimate diamond and setting -- my soon to be engagement ring has arrived. It was fedexed to my office, as that was the easiest option, and I handed it off to my boyfriend, unopened! Both my boyfriend and I are torn as to whether or not I should see it before the proposal (which I don''t know when that will happen). How many of you saw your ring pre-proposal? If you saw it, do you wish you would have waited? Any advice would be appreciated..

Thanks!
Diamondcrazed :)

Oh, you''ve waited THIS long...you can wait for the proposal (as long as that doesnt take much longer, hehe!). The fun of the surprise is not only the actual proposal itself, but seeing that beautiful ring for the very first time, IMO.

Congrats and good luck...can''t wait to hear proposal stories!!!

That''s not a crazy question at all. I actually helped pick out my engagement ring because I knew exactly what I wanted and where to get it for the best price. So, needless to say, I saw my ring. I don''t regret it at all. I think it actually made me more excited about the engagement altogether! However, if your boyfriend picked it out himself, maybe you''ll want to wait until the actual proposal...especially if you are one that likes surprises!!

I agree I would wait, it will be all the more special seeing it for the first time at the proposal. I know it must be torture, but hopefully you won''t have to wait too long!!

Hey Diamondcrazed,

Wait for it! You made a marvelous job of handing over the package unopened to your soon-to-be-FI. If your resolve was going to waiver, then that was the moment. It probably won''t be that much longer before you are sporting that lovely ring on your hand (but be practical, make it a 6 or 10 month waiting period, unless you already know otherwise). Try your best to forget about it and fill your waiting days with other distractions. I doubt you will be disappointed with this sort of plan-of-action.

By the way, congratulations on your upcoming engagement.

I would also agree to wait! I am a sucker for surprises!!!! I always hated it when my parents would let me and my brother pick out what we wanted for christmas gifts. Come christmas day it was like "Great Mom, the sweater I picked out! Wow, how did you know?!"

I wished I would have waited, for the excitement surprise sentiment but I am glad I got to see it and warm up to it!!

Do please post pictures of your ring when you receive it!!

I would try to wait... BUT, my only question would be is there a return period on this ring? Like maybe, you would want to make sure it is exactly what you wanted (if you helped design it) instead of finding out in a couple months that something just isn''t right?

Other than the return policy issue, I''d say wait. I dunno, I just think that having some element of pure surprise helps make the actual moment that much more special.

If the return policy is an issue, maybe he should propose before it expires? This way you don''t have to see it before or wait for a long time.

I guess I''m going to be the lone dissenter...I would want to see the ring!!! But then again, I am not a very patient person and I HATE surprises...lol! If it won''t spoil the engagement for you, I''d ask to see it. If you think it would ruin the moment...don''t look. Only you know what you''d be comfortable with. I suspect that part of you wants to see the ring, or you would never have started this thread...

Thanks everyone for the advice! I have decided that I am going to wait until the proposal and hopefully that will be soon.
