Should I set her E/W or N/S?

Hey All!

I’ve received my (what I believe) is my final CAD rendition with DK. The mold should arrive this week. The question is, my new OEC is “off circle” and I want the ring to look as round as possible, she looks great in either direction, but I’m leaning N/S… however, there are a few “off circle” OEC’s I’ve seen here on PS that are set as an E/W Orientation and they look BEAUTIFUL. Most people will not be able to tell via the naked eye, but I know my PS friends are different and have a more discerning eye… she will be places into a crown soli.

Here is a picture of the Stone and the Inspo pic, it is a Victor Barone design, the main difference is that it will be set higher, have Cathedral shoulders, and will be tapered near the bottom more, with a much smaller donut. Also, my setting will be platinum. The measurements are 10.49 x 10.86mm.

I also included a pic of it E/W and N/S, again… currently leaning N/S.

I think with all those prongs you won't be able to tell anyway once set, but I'd choose what look I wanted (long slender fingers? NS. chunky wide band? EW. I know those are extreme examples but for illustration purposes..)

North South! The stone isn't oblong enough for East West imo...

I am leaning this direction for that exact reason… where my head is for now.

I’ve got long and slender fingers, size 4-4.25

Another vote for N/S!

I came in to say “ALWAYS E/W!!”
But I agree with the other posters the size difference will be negligible for it to be most flattering if do n/s unless idk you wear a ring size over 8

IMO it's not out of round enough for anyone to notice if you didn't tell them.
S I'd flip a coin or just tell the bench you don't care.

North-South for me too.

DK :))

So helpful, everyone this is where I was leaning!

@Niel made me lol that was your initial gut instinct, I ALWAYS thought if I had an cushion or OEC to reset that presented the opportunity I would jump on it- but this stone, in particular calls for N/S, I believe.

If you set the widest part N S, then the narrowest part will be E W.

Whatever you do, it will be set both ways.

+1 for N/S; mine is also out of round, slightly more than yours at 9.74 x 9.24 and to me it is noticeable; it is in a setting very similar to what you are getting702751

Oh this is SUPER HELPFUL! And I adore your ring, it’s in my inspo folder! Your setting looks perfect… and I agree, no one would be able to tell, but I CAN TELL when I rotate my diamond around, so this visual is super helpful.

I agree with NS. I have a sapphire cabochon being set right now that is very similar proportions and I opted for NS setting. It just looks better NS than east west, even though the gem mostly looks round either way.
