Should PS be more paranoid?

I Do Not want to make this a PS vs. DT smackdown, but I wanted to put this question out there.

DT heavily monitors their diamond discussion boards, edits, and sometimes removes questionable posts they feel are made by trolls, shills, etc.

I realize that there are unscrupulous businesses out there on the Internet that will do anything to get or steal someone''s business.

Is DT being overly cautious or is PS not being cautions enough? Could shills be poo-poo-ing stones here so that vendors can feed people info that benefits them?

How could two boards, be so opposite from each other?

i dunno.....heaven and hell?

unless all the regulars are conspiring with one another, no. but you're never going to know something like that for certain, not on the internet. you just have to judge from the tone and content of people's posts whether they are on the up-and-up.

personally, i've seen little here to be concerned with.

That was a GREAT example puddykat! ROFL

I concur. I too, have seen little to be worried about on PS, which is why I spend all of my time here! In fact, I've had a little chuckle about this with Jon@GOG!

But still... the discrepancy in personality between the two boards is compelling. Do the people make the board or does the board make the people?

For me, the strength of PS is the extraordinary ability of Leonid, the other mods, and the long time posters to present a professional image of PS through the consistency and quality of their words.

I think this is the case of a self-reinforcing cycle.

It started with the people making the board, and eventually as the board gets large enough the board 'make' the people

since it seems to me PS attracts (or retain, more like!) certain type of people.

I tend to agree w/Matata...

err, thought better of what I was going to say.

It is Ironic that a year or two ago there was a similar discussion on DT and we were all so happy that it was a happening place with little stress compared to many discussion boards.

Unfortunately that has changed dramatically.

I am very greatful that Leonid has created such a comfortable place and that it has come to be populated with such a gracious host of good people.

I hesitate to say too much as a newcomer here, but I believe Leonid to be doing an excellent job and certainly would not want to see him become to restrictive as that can be chilling on the conversation quality of a board. I have seen him step in quickly when the situation calls for it, and that is much better than setting up stifling rules and regs then throwing people off if they inadvertantly cross over the line.

There were and are a lot of very good people on the DT board and I for one will miss it. What sets a light going in my heart now though is finding so many of my old friends here and an atmosphere of camradarie and teasing that has made me feel right at home from the first days of my arrival.

I should probably just erase all of the above and just replace it with:

YOU GUYS ROCK!

Oy, ROTF and on that note -- it's quittin' time on the west coast -- time for me to go and make close acquaintance with a bottle of pinot grigio.

edited to correct spelling of pinot. If I didn't drink so much of it, I'd probably spell better

umm...is that 'pun intended'?

Pun and a lot of gratitude intended!

I have had jobs where people were treated unprofessionally, almost like children, so they started to act like children. I have also had jobs where employees were treated like adults and expected to be professional and thus everyone acted professional. BTW, both places required college degrees, etc. (I am not knocking anyone here.. I am just trying to make it clear we are not talking teen-agers).

It kind of reminds me of DT vs. PS. If you expect the best of people and give them the benefit of the doubt, they will usually meet your expectations.

I mean this in a very positive way.

no it shouldnt.
Anytime that it gets too paranoid around here it ends up being a bad thing and usualy an inocient person gets hurt by it.

We were kicked off DT for defending the reason behind a post made by one of our competitors along the lines of explaining that he had been unable to respond to several posts directed to him by a member of the public in several areas of the forum because he had been unable to log-on to the forum due to weather related problems back East (there had been a huge snowstorm that knocked out all the power, etc.)

DT Mgmt. tossed a fit over his post indicating that it was self-promotion when all it said was something like "I realize that there are a few posts directed towards me that require my personal attention and I have been off line due to weather problems here on the East Coast, I should be back in my office in a few days and I will address each post at that time..."

He got tossed off DT for the post and so did we for saying "what's the big deal, it kind of made sense"... We made a few other points of logic that we're not dumb enough to repeat on somebody else's forum, but nothing that was too outrageous

We have no use for "DT" 'cuz we don't drink and we don't do drugs... That's another pun

LOL Todd,

Why don't you take off the sugar coating and tell us how you really feel...

Welcome back.
