I’ve been offered a .90 carat diamond solitaire and would like to know your thoughts and what you think? They are wanting 600gbp for it. Is this a reasonable price for it? I’m not good at these sort of things and would love to see everyone’s .90 carat solitaires for size references. Thankyou x

The docket says it's an I1 - but it looks like an I2 or worse to me. It's *really* heavily included, to my eye - what I'd call a 'salt and pepper' diamond. If that't the case, it would compare to *this*:

So, no - not worth 600GBP.

But that's just an opinion. If it's worth it to *you* - then no problem! And I know jewelry of all kinds is very expensive in the UK. So it's a case of what you like, on balance. I know the jeweler selling this can access man made diamonds. Would you consider something like that in this same setting? Would be a much better ring for the price, in my opinion. But again - that's just my opinion....

Agree, the stone is sooo heavily included as to be totally lifeless. A lab made stone or a vintage piece would be a better place to spend six hundred quid!

Something like this, even after paying shipping, would probably make you happier. Size of the stone can’t compensate for a lifeless, heavily included stone.

For reference, EW set emerald cut at the top of the stack is smaller than .9 as its .8 carats

I would defo consider this.

Thankyou for your replies , I wont be purchasing it, it has far too may inclusions.

I dont mind the stone having one but not full of them , doesnt have to be a perfect diamond.

What do you think if this ring? Its 1.12 carat diamond, I-j in colour , clarity i1.20200229_132654.jpg20200229_132644.jpg20200229_132632.jpg20200229_132621.jpg20200229_132608.jpg

That’s going to face up at a nice size as it’s a long marquis. I see a feather, but if you’re good with it, that’s what matters..

It looks to be a Stuller setting from the hallmark stamp, so it will be of a good, serviceable quality.

If possible, you might want is to see it in person, if you can or have a return window. Elongated cuts, pears and marquises, can have a bow tie effect - virtuallly all of them do. It’s about how much of one. That said, don’t let a bow tie scare you, they go with the territory with this cut. It’s about knowing what you have so you don’t feel it’s a defect. I have a large pear, L color our, with a mild BT.

One other thing, if you want to wear a wedding band with this, you may have to opt for a bent one given the profile.

If bow tie is a new term for you, let us know and I’m sure we can find a PS thread explaining.

The first diamond is a salt and pepper one and the second just very tinted and included. Personally, I’d rather buy sth smaller but of half decent quality - without visible inclusions and quite colourless. In England, Blue Nile is a good place to find quality diamonds on a budget. Or if you want a ready ring, then Purely Diamonds is better than the high street and quite cheap.

I agree, slight imperfections I'm not too fussed about and I'm not looking for a totally clear, clean perfect diamond. It's really to add to my collection, I'm a bit of a magpie lol. I came across this also, they are only asking £300 for it. It has a .60 carat marquise with .15 carat small diamonds on the band. It's pretty but was looking for a larger centre stone for more coverage, but what do you think?Screenshot_20200301-093906_eBay.jpgScreenshot_20200301-093917_eBay.jpg

Not experienced in fancy shapes, but just to provide some more reference on 0.9ct round.
This my wife’s 0.93 anniversary ring, ring size 4.75A7B1BFB9-7E7F-4BA8-BE43-AC88187634B5.png

A .9ct marquise or oval is going to look different to a .9ct round or square cut. It sounds like you're after the biggest bang for your buck (which I appreciate) so I'd go with a marquise. I bought a lovely 1.07ct F colour I1 marquise from JA and set it with small side stones. The result is a ring that looks much bigger than it is. Not all inclusions are bad so I wouldn't shy away from I1 again but it'd be good to see what the inclusion are before buying. The above stone is not great.
The 0.6ct looks like a nice ring for its price but it's a buyer's market so ask for another discount :D

Just to add, who is grading these stones I1 or SI2? They don't look to me like they're independently graded - is that correct? If that's the case, you'll probably find they're a significantly lower grade than as advertized.

It's one thing for it not to be a perfect stone, but these are a long way from good.

What is important to you? Is your only concern size, or do you want light return as well? if light return isn't important and size is your thing (and no criticism from me on that!), would you consider man made diamonds (MMDs) or moissanite? I asked you this in a post above, but I think it got lost in the wash. Are you open to the idea of MMDs? Alternately, are you willing to wait a bit to get to, say, the 1k mark to get something of the next level up?

Also - if beauty is important for you, and authenticity as opposed to man made - how about a colored gem? Something set in a diamond halo?

What she said! All of it.

Thankyou guys for all your advice and suggestions, they are very much appreciated! My partner gave me this ring a few months back which belonged to his mother. I just kept it in my jewellery box as it's too big for me, but have decided to take it to get resized and a good old clean & polish for me to wear, instead of buying another ring.

It's a 1.09 carat diamond.20200301_201443.jpg20200301_201359.jpg20200301_201431.jpg

It's a 1.09 carat diamond.

I saw this on your other post. If you have this beauty, perhaps put your funds towards a nice matching band or eternity? :D Congrats!

The 1.09ct diamond is lovely! It’s a million times nicer than the duds above. I think it’s a great decision to have it resized and polished. Or you could have it set in a different setting if you’d rather. I’m sure you’ll be happy to wear it!
