I''m just so impressed the tastes of the brides on this forum, AND I''m a complete dummy when it comes to flowers. It wasn''t until Teebee posted her beautiful orchid bouquet that I even started thinking about it (I don''t even have a color scheme ACH!--do I need one?)
I''m counting on you girls for some great ideas.
AS you know, we''re getting married in the Caribean (WAHOOOO

)
I thought maybe I should stick with island flowers. Orchids are island flowers, right?
I love Teebee''s greens,
but I''d love to see something like hers in whites?
I dunno, blues or purples?
I really don''t know at all, hopeless really.
Any girls collecting bouquet pictures that they don''t mind posting?
As always,
Thanks!!

Hmm.. My flowers are probably nothing like what you are looking for.. And i''m kind of flower dumb too. Whats an orchid?

OOh.. What about Mara''s bouquet? Mara, Mara, where are you? It was even featured in a magazine. Mara is FAMOUS!

Too funny--I don''t have a color scheme either! I told my MOH (my only attendant) to get whatever dress she felt fabulous in, and that I would arrange my "color scheme" around her. I think white table linens with white chair covers looks fine enough; I can''t get myself to start thinking about "colors".

All the pictures I''m collecting are of rose bouquets (but I''ll post for eye candy anyways!).

The Martha Stewart show I saw the other day, where she did a destination wedding in the caribbean, talked about the need to bring non-native flowers with you to the island (or have them shipped). She used white orchids, they were GORGEOUS, and I was surprised at how few of these babies it took to make a really full bouquet. I''ll see if I can find a pic of those. I''m not sure if they got the orchids from the island or if they shipped them there.

This will all fall into place and the journey will be so fun!

MelissaSue, I''m glad that at least one other PSer isn''t up on flowers.

Selflove, that bouqet is GORGEOUS. I love roses..
And I''ve told my bridesmaids to wear whatever they love too...I''ve got three of them.

Mara Mara Mara,
post yours too, please!

So Martha Stewart said that one should bring flowers to the island? That seems strange to me, especially if you are in a tropical place that''s loaded with flowers, but she''s clearly got more style that I ever will!!!!

I''ve always loved sunflowers...but for some reason, I don''t think they''ll work out in the situation.

I love the blues of hydrangeas --- they might go with the color of the ocean.

POST em ladies! I''d love to see them!
(I turn into more and more of a girly girl every day with this weding thing!)

Thanks Selflove!
Instant gratification!! That''s a wild bouqet!

Here's the one I'm basing my bouqet on
For those that are flower illiterate, these (as are the above pics, I think) are cymbidium orchids. they come in white, green, sometimes pink too I think.

ETA: there's also roses in this one too...

Another fav of mine:

Another: (I don''t like the arrangement as much on this one, but I love the dark pink centers!

A purple centerpiece, but also orchids. DOn''t know what kind though... probably also cymbidiums.

And Mara''s - can''t help loving hers! Can you tell I''m big on orchids yet?!! I just met w/my florist and she agreed to orchid/rose bouqets, like the first one I posted.. .I''m so excited!!!

I especially liked that one! i''m glad I know what orchids are now. they are very pretty!

I LOOOOVE the pink rose bouquet that self love posted..
My bouquets are going to be pink roses too..

My bouquet will be like this one.. but probably smaller

My girls will be like these. I am thinking the MOHs are going to have solid bouquets and the bms have mixtures. But I have two of each.. so it still won''t really differentiate that much. But again, smaller

And my centerpieces (smaller, yet again)

or like this. I definitely want the mirrors

These are so beautiful!
How does one decide??? I guess you choose flowers that go with your color scheme?
MelissaSue, Roses are so classic,
I thought for a while I would go with white roses, )
I LOVE Rochchick''s bouquet!
Your pretty pink roses are lovely.
but I think that they''d have to ship
roses to the island, and I think that would be silly, (at least in my opinion)
Mistylark, I never ever thought of tulips. Those are some nice arrangements.
You have lovely taste!
JC, So much color!! Those arrangements are gorgeous!
They really are!!
Flopkins, I"m still drooling over the orchids.
I wonder how expensive they are.
I wonder if they have orchids native to the Virgin Islands, it''s time to google.

Flopkins was sweet enough to post my flowers...the first photo is the ''photographer'' photo that was featured in the Wedding Channel mag this summer. So fun!

I didn''t know what I wanted until we spoke with our florist on Kauai and asked her what she thought. Orchids are native to Kauai so they are CHEAPER than on the mainland! We never could have afforded what we did with flowers on the mainland. I adore orchids because they are different and they were so inline with the tropical feel of the islands that we had to do it. And we got everything I wanted for only about $300 over the budget...it was awesome.

I wanted something like that pink cymbidium bouquet with purple and white dendrobiums but with lime cymbidiums, added the pinks in at the last minute and found the ribbon locally and took it with us to Kauai, it all worked out so beautifully. The bouquet was STUNNING in person and the bridesmaids ones were great too. I will dig out a pic of those and post it for comparison...they only had pink/purple and whites, no limes.

I''d check to see what is native to where you are getting married and finding out what is in season at the time. I really love tulips and roses etc but in the end I had to go with the feel of the whole place we were getting married at. I thought how silly would it be to have tulips (one of my fave flowers) in KAUAI surrounded by natural tropical flowers? hehee. So we did the orchids and I had the florist scatter orchids and native plumeria all over the lawn and as my ''walkway'' down the aisle.

Hope this helps!!

I adore flowers..it was probably the most fun part of the planning for me. And when she brought in the bouquets I was just speechless, they turned out SO WELL. She also got a plug in the magazine so I hope it gets her more business!

Here are the bridesmaid flowers..they were also tied with the same ribbons that hung down..

bm flowers mara.jpg

and then since you mentioned ''theme''...we didn''t really have one either...we used alot of white aka white orchids for the tables and no color, the cake was white, the BM dresses were a soft mauve/rose and so the flowers pink and white and green worked with the dresses, the green worked great with the grass and scenery of the kauai surroundings. The cake also had a topper with similar flowers (see image). So I think not having a real THEME worked out okay because we stuck with simple colors...I was not really into having everything match, but more act complimentary to the surroundings.

Mara,
Those are just lovely!
Reading your post made me laugh, because I didn''t have a clue what any of those flowers were (except of course
orchids, roses, and tulips) it was all Greek to me.
I''m with you 100%, I want to go with what is Native to St. John, I''m having difficulty researching that, though.
I appreciate all and any help!

Haha cymbidiums are the BIG lime and pink orchids, they are more expensive. The small ones that are solid white and purple are dendrobiums. I love orchids and keep them around the house so the terms just roll off the tongue, or in this case the fingers.

I''d find a florist on the island you are getting married on...I found my vendors on theknot.com by going to the area where we were getting married (aka Hawaii board) and looking up recommendations. Then I called and spoke with them (then flew over and met them all in person), and at that point I felt I trusted them enough to help me with designs etc. So I''d try to find a florist first and then discuss options. HTH!

Hey Mara and everyone,
THANKS!
I''m getting excited, and with your help, I have a few ideas.
Ty
