Show me your pear shaped ring settings!

Hi all, helping a friend design his girlfriend’s engagement ring and we are looking for inspo!

The stone in question (he’s still looking) will be large - around 3-4ct, her brief is as follows:

- pear shape centre stone (non negotiable)

- minimalist design (solitaire preferably, pave elements on the band can be considered)

- wants an open, clean basket setting but something a bit different (she’s fond of trellis settings for example)

- interesting shank detail (milgrain and tri-wire both are things she likes)

I tried looking but I can’t find many examples anywhere. If anyone has a pear ring that fits any of the above criteria, or any elongated shape even (like ovals, ECs etc) that have these elements, I would love it if you would post them here!

I love this ring, so elegant! And the crown shaped basket is super pretty!

I love the way the band nips in and curves near the stone! That’s a lovely detail, and the basket also looks beautiful and open! I wonder if it can be modified to have 5 prongs instead of 3?

Oh that’s gorgeous! I see a slight reverse taper as the band comes closer to the stone, I like that! And the milgrain is super pretty! I just hope the basket isn’t too “plain” for her (her exact words: “I don’t like those plain settings where there’s a thick bar in the middle of the stone, but I don’t like busy things. Something clean, simple and different.” which I am interpreting as “wants an interesting, open basket design”. He showed her some examples I sent and she liked trellis type designs, but I don’t know how feasible that is to adapt to a pear).

Oh this is perfect!! You’re a star - I couldn’t find a pear in trellis setting, I tried looking!

I think this is a great starting point - perhaps combined with a fun shank detail?

I love the knife edge band in the Clutch setting, and how gorgeous and open it is. It sits quite low, too. I am not sure she will do a WB since that’s not really a thing in india, but it’s good that the setting is designed to sit against a WB if she wants!

The floral basket too is gorgeous, I would just be concerned that it’s a floating head and not a cathedral style… I wonder if it would be secure enough. But it could be easily modified to add the cathedral imo.

The trellis setting is lovely too, as is the Lauren B setting! I’m sure it could be modified to add more prongs, as for a 3.5-4ct stone the idea of three prongs makes me nervous

Shayla Karimi has some modern and unconventional settings. The Zaha Curve reminds me of some curved V-shaped Indian wedding rings I've seen.

These are super pretty too but I think her stone is too big to sit diagonal or EW. A 3.5-4ct pear would be, what, 12-14mm across the NS axis? But still, gorgeous and unique. That diagonal setting I absolutely love.

Hello friends! As an update - I asked my friend if I could post pics on here of the stone he picked + ring CAD (still to come) but he declined. However he did agree that I could post the details so I thought I’d do that!

He went with a I VS1 4.03ct pear with a LxW ratio of around 1.55 IIRC. Very pretty stone!

The ring design we agreed on was: milgrain cathedral pave shank (in case she wants a WB, though it’s unlikely we thought we’d leave the option open), delicate claw prongs. The face up appearance will be quite similar to this pic posted upthread, except no taper and a V shaped prong at the tip:



As for the basket, we are taking inspo from this pic also posted upthread but we’ve removed the prong at the base of the stone, so that swoop won’t clear the top of the stone:

Here is my pear, setting designed by me and made by David Klass, platinum. Small stones at the rondels are French cut diamonds. It’s a tick under 3 carats but quite long at 13mm. Ratio is 1:1.70.

Does anybody by chance have any inspo pear belcher settings to ogle? I can't really figure out how to design around the asymmetry but like the idea for a 1.3ct sapphire. TIA!
