I''m not sure yet whether we''ll be doing favours. I''m not convinced it''s really ''necessary'' and we''re trying to keep all costs super under control, except for the top quality meal and booze we''re serving.

I mean, would people really even notice if there were no favours? Seriously, do you ever even really think about it? My dad didn''t give favours at his last wedding, and I don''t think anyone even noticed. I''m actually not sure whether it''s always done in my country.

Buuuuuut... on the other hand one of the very, very few things I ever thought of weddings wise before I actually started planning was how completely redonkulously adorable these little Vosges chocolate boxes are and how perfect they would be for a wedding. So I''m considering it!

Other ideas? What kinds of favours are you giving out? Is anyone else considering not giving them?

First of all, those are really cute boxes and if you decide to do favors, I think they''d be perfect.

Second, I''m not a big wedding favor fan. I did do welcome bags for out of town guests (and ALMOST didn''t do those, but am glad I did), but favors just sounded like they would be a headache for me and not very important to guests. When we started planning, I basically stripped the wedding of anything I felt was unnecessary and favors were the first to go. Programs and a guest book followed suit!

Favors are very very unnecessary IMO. We are donating to a charity with the $ we would have used for favors. We will put some info about the charity on the tables too.

i just orderd littlechocolate brown boxes on ebay 90.00 on ebay for under 100 and we are going to fill them with hersey kisses( not sure if im going to order them from hersey online which sells them that say just married or just get regualar ones)going to tie a champage colord satin ribon on the box and little tags that say "kisses from the new Mr and Mrs>

I don''t think they''re necessary either.

I was just at my cousin''s big country wedding last weekend, and they gave out can coolers in the wedding colors that said, "Jenny and Jason 10-6-07" on one side and "To have and to hold and to keep your beer cold" on the other. Cute ''cause the wedding was informal!

We are having blue boxes with white ribbon on. We love Thorntons Chocolate (I think we only have that in the UK) so we are putting some gorgeous Continental Sicilian Lemon Mousse chocolates inside.

Here is the box....

Here are the chocolates - yum!!!

I debated about doing favors, after some thought I decided to go ahead and do them. But I didn''t want anything edible (mainly because we are doing an outdoor wedding in June and if it''s hot, the chocolate could melt). So we decided to do CD''s, but we picked 10 of our closest friends and family and ask their wedding song. The CD will have each of the couple''s wedding song on it, and I will include the name of the couple and wedding date on the track list included in the case.

The cases will look like this...but I''m doing lime green labels w/ navy blue ribbon.

Just to add....we are also doing flip-flp favors for the girls. I was concerned w/ an outdoor wedding that the female guests wearing heels would sink into the ground. So I bought 60 pairs of old navy flip-flops at the end of summer in our wedding colors. I tied ribbon around each pair w/ a label for size. We will display them in baskets so that if they choose, the female guests don''t have to worry about ruining their shoes....I know I don''t want to ruin mine

We did not do traditional favors- I can''t remember any that I''ve kept. The only ones I remember enjoying were the edible (i.e. candy!) ones- so....

We decided to take the $ and do a chocolate fountain for everyone. It was phenomenal- a huge hit, and it ''beefed up'' our cocktail hour, since we only went with the standard cheese/crackers and veggies/dip tray. It looked beautiful and the caterers kept it going all night, even putting small pieces of the wedding cake out-

Everyone loved it, still hearing about it.

We also did OOT boxes for the hotels and people really enjoyed those.

I think this is the greatest idea I''ve EVER heard! So sweet & thoughtful :-)

I dont'' think they are necessary either but I like the idea of thanking my guests for coming by just giving them a little something. Even if it is just candy. But I do love the idea of donating to acharity in their name. I''ve remembered every favor I''ve ever recevied and I do admit some things are not as useful (or yummy).

But we''re going to do favors. Hopefully we''ll be giving out these little bud vases. They''re made of chem lab beaker glass and since FI and I met during chemistry lab (we were lab partners) in college I thought that would be a cute little "connection". I had wanted to give out little mini beakers and flasks but then I thought what would people do with thoses? And I found these! Ppl can actually use them!

I don''t have a picture of them..yet, but our photographer is making ours. She''s taking one of our engagement pictures and putting them on lollipops. So they''ll be tucked into the napkins when the guests arrive.

Not exactly favors, but we''re leaving sparklers and personalized match boxes at each place setting (we''re getting married on the 4th of July). The plan is for guests to use them there (outdoor tented reception) - I think it will look beautiful in pictures. That was as far as I wanted to go with tying in the holiday.

thanks amy! I''ve been to an outdoor wedding before, and i remember how annoying sinking into the ground can be and I definitely ruined those shoes by the end of the night....so hopefully the favors solve that problem for our guests....and they ended up looking really cute (I''m like a super planner (some would say psycho), so I have them done already...the wedding isn''t until June 08...hehe)

If we have favors at all, it will probably be something like little cider packets.

All our family members are staying on the grounds in rental cabins, so we''ll probably make up some baskets with autumny foods, drinks, candles, etc.

I''ve been debating the same thing. But if we end up doing favors were going to do the cookies by design thing kinda like this http://www.cookiesbydesign.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=OP21. Ralphs market sells a sugar cookie kit to make the same ones and they''re super easy. I''m just going to bake them myself, and take them to my baker and she is going to ice them for really cheap and they will match the cake

we didn''t have favors. no one said a peep about it. i REALLY don''t think they noticed or cared.

People won''t notice or care if there aren''t any favors -- 2 out of the 4 weddings I''ve been to didn''t have them and no one cared. We''re only having them b/c they fit into our budget, but they were the 1st thing to get cut if we had to cut things out.

I think it''s a nice idea to give a little something, especially for folks who''ve come a distance to be at your wedding. Vosges chocolates would be lovely. Or a tiny cupcake in a little box (like takeaway wedding cake?). I remember going through my Grandmother''s things when she passed away last year and was surprised to find several small white china plates (like something you''d leave a ring on), rimmed in gold with her name in gold script in the middles. Apparently back in the day, that''s how they did table seating - a little take home dish that had your name on it at the place setting you were to be seated at. I sort of like that idea...or something similar.

i''m having a destination wedding and am thinking about doing luggage tags for favors. they''re not cheap, though, and i''m trying to decide if it''s worth it. i definitely don''t think anyone notices or cares about favors.

From day 1, I was not going to do favors....then I became obsessed with having a little white box with a red or orange ribbon on it to act as part of the table decoration....and decided to fill little boxes with kisses. I was going to just do normal kisses...then i became obsessed with the idea of doing different flavored kisses after I discovered that Hershey came out with a bunch of different flavors this year for the 100th anniversary. So, now we have 15 different flavors in the cutest little boxes tied with a bow.

So, I am having favors now. But only because I couldn''t leave those cute little boxes empty!!!

I think that''s a great idea, too, but I am making them for our "Save the Date" invitation boxes. I actually went with the "Free Premium Business Cards" on VistaPrint, then went for the cheapest shipping, so for $5.45, I have a card to then slap a computerized label on the back with Name, Address, Phone # like a regular luggage tag. Granted, they will have to use permanent marker over the laminate, but I figure they could change info fairly easily that way, and at leasts it''s a functional item!

I even bought a laminator for $9 on ebay, then bought 200 clear luggage tags and loops for under $30 with shipping, so I am truly making my own. When I get the cards from Vista Print I''ll post them with what I plan to do.

Since we''re getting so many of them, we will probably use them as favors at the reception when we come home, possibly tied on to a CD or something.

This may not apply, and I dont have the best pic to show you...but we got married in Tuscany, Italy and gave everyone a hand-painted soap dish/spoon rest thingy from Florence. Some had grape vines painted on it, some birds, some sunflowers
This idea could work for anyone so long as the painted items reflect their 'theme'.

Here is our display of favours at the wedding:
We printed labels for the bottom with our names and the date, and then tied the pink ribbon (and the candies) to them. So traditional (Italian) but really nice. Everyone seemed to really like them!

We did little Korean wedding ducks. We also included a little slip of vellum with information about the ducks. We had our big ducks on the guestbook table with a big print out of what they are, as well as a set of small Korean wedding vases, since we were using large Korean wedding vases on either side of the alter.

I should have added...I don''t think people really care. I mean, we got lots of compliments on ours, but we also just spent the last year in Korea...we had people ask for extras even, lol. And the bridal party was even making sure they got theirs (at least the girls/SO''s of the guys, lol). But I don''t think they are really important unless you have something really significant or special to you guys...that will be passed on to the guests.

I know a lot of people have done OOT bags for guests which I would love to do since we are having a DT as well.

Where did everyone get their bags? For the most part ones I see online are expensive! Or maybe that is just because I want a color and not the boring natural color.

Also, how did you decorate your bags? Did you use paint or have them silk screened?

I definitely don''t think favors are necessary and I doubt that anyone would notice if we didn''t do them. Has Surfgirl said, it is nice to give something to those who are OOT and traveled a long way. IF we do favors, it will be something simple, like a small cellophane bag or a small box with just a couple of chocolates (there''s a chocolate place right near our venue). We are definitely going to do out of town bags with a bunch of local Maine products (a small bottle of real maple syrup, maybe a small jar of locally made Maine blueberry jam, maybe a few chocolates, the book Blueberries for Sal for the little kids who attend, bottles of water, and maybe a couple of other little items -- all in a simple paper gift bag.

It is nice to know I could skip the favors and it wouldn''t be a big deal. I do however love chocolate and favors would be fun. Sweatpea, I''m digging the chocolate mice from L.A. Burdick Chocolate. I was also looking into some race car chocolates as we might do a Formula 1 table naming scheme.
