Thats interesting. I have never seen this gemstone before.
It doesn''t surprise me. This piece has some backing behind it as you can see from the photo''s and I have a certificate of authenticity...so hopefully I didn''t get jipped.Date: 1/11/2009 2:32:11 PM

Please be aware that Amber is routinely artificially made - all colours, yellow, green, red etc with resins. It''s incredibly difficult to tell the real from the fake.
Is it from a shopping channel? If it is then unfortunately having a certificate of authenticity doesn''t say what treatments have been applied (for example for sapphires they never say whether something''s heated/unheated/treated etc) but if you look at their enhancements page it''s astonishing what they do. For Amber they (1) dye it (2) heat it (3) fuse small pieces together to reconstruct a big piece - sometimes adding a backing (4) heat to produce a "green" colour.Date: 1/11/2009 2:36:24 PM

TL, give me your address, we have alot of bugs here in FLorida, year round!
I belong to another forum, and we were discussing bug collecting there (although the forum is not about bugs), and everyone from a hot climate wanted to send me their bugs. It was pretty funny. I actually collect and mount dragonflies and butterflies, and other flying insects.Date: 1/11/2009 4:12:46 PM

Here is a 3-dimensional amber heart I once carved for my wife. Baltic amber untreated.
