There are so many beautiful orange gemstones and I love the color orange. But I don't see a lot of orange jewelry in person, in the wild, so it's hard for me to envision how to set an orange gem.

Do you have an orange spess, topaz, sapphire, or other stone that you've set in jewelry? If so, please share a photo of your finished piece here! I would love to see it.

If you are willing to share your thoughts on how you designed the piece, even better. Or you can share your general likes/dislikes when it comes to setting orange gems. I enjoy learning from all of you and your creative ideas.

I do not have any orange gems in finished jewelry, but will share a pic of my spess pair to kick things off. Not a great photo -- they are actually a matching pair, with the lower left stone is more representative of their actual color.

Thank you so much for the links and the pic. I love the orange/pink/purple color combo and your ring came out beautifully.

One question that comes to mind after reading your thread: It looks like you chose yellow gold for your ring and @Sungura chose rose gold. Had you considered setting your stone in white gold? If so, why didn't you go for it? Do you think white gold and spess clash? Does YG better highlight the orange color?

Showing off mine, shamelessly.

Absolutely beautiful, thank you! :kiss2:

Did you use white gold for this piece? Can you tell me more about that? Did you choose it to highlight the color of the center stones or to go with the diamonds?

Sorry i don't have a picture
i had an orange (lab) saphire that unfortunate got lost
It was in yellow gold and it really showed up the orange of the stones
When i get another orange stone ring i would prefer it to also be in yellow gold

Thank you! I'm sorry your stone was lost, but appreciate your insight.

Thanks. It’s set in platinum because I prefer the colour/weight/feel of PT. Was toying with the idea of using YG prongs but decided against it to keep the design more streamline. I prefer delicate prongs and am not sure if I would see them well from an arm length anyway.

Have you checked yours against your skin tone and next to various metals? How do you like them? It’s all about personal preference, jmho.

I prefer yellow/rose gold over white gold or platinum in general: I just love the rich warm look of yellow/rose gold. It is definitely a personal preference; I think @Neptune's spess is stunning in platinum and @Niel's topaz in white gold is classy. I also really like my platinum blue sapphire ring, which is my only ring in white metal.
It really depends on which color combo you like more; you may want to put your stone against the metal to compare.

My Spess is more red than orange but here it is...

Orange spessartite. (It looks brighter and oranger IRL.) The black onyx panel was intended to make the stone pop, and it does.

Reddish spessartite. Yellow gold makes a clear contrast with the red-orange stone.

Orange sapphire. It's a good bright orange, but I'm thinking that there is not enough contrast with the yellow gold. (Compare with both the above rings.)

Thank you both for sharing. I do like the look of the spesses against yellow god, but sometimes I find the body color of gems tends to look a bit difference once set, so it's sometimes hard for me to predict the final look.

Thank you! Amazing! I love seeing the different colors and contrasts. The spess with the onyx looks amazing. I see what you mean about the orange sapphire. The ring is beautiful, but it is a lower-key look.

Here is mine. I chose to surround it with other colors because orange does not go great with my skin tone.

Oddly enough, I almost always avoid rose gold for the same reason but chose it for this ring because it went better with the colors and gave it a softer flower look.

I like that a lot. I wouldn't normally consider rose gold with orange, but I like how it goes with the color palette. It does make it look softer or more delicate. It's beautiful!

Found a buddy for your ring, by Ming Jewellery

Wow! I'm amazed!

For what it's worth, the black panel in my ring was something I dreamed up, not directly inspired by any model. I guess the moral is that there are only so many basic concepts in jewellery.

I love the more sophisticated design of this one. Mine is really just a basic signet, but this one has serious style. It's definitely going into my inspiration folder.

Thank you for finding this.

I agree and you're welcome. Ming Lampson has neat stuff.
