I’m going to pay a lot of money to get a proper closet done. No more wire shelving! But I need ideas. What do you love about your closet?

My closet's full of gay men.

They won't let me post a pic because, well, after all, they are in the closet.

at my old job we sold all sorts of fancy systems for wardrobes in new houses
but a lot of the older builders knew how some ladies pack in the clothes and the weight of it all
so they would buy galvinased water pipe !

My closet is old school, just a small walk-in with rods on 3 sides. When I stand in front of the closet
Door, the left side wall are all pants and skirts. In front of me are all the tops, long sleeves on the left, short sleeves on the right, and on the right wall are all my dresses, jumpsuits and dressier stuff like suits.

What I like about my closet is that it is very roomy and I probably can put some built in shelving, but I like hanging my clothes.

We did a standalone unit using the IKEA PAX wardrobe system and my favourite part is having an upper railing for shirts and at waist height I have a glass shelf with a short tray for jewelry and accessories beneath it. I love having this glass feature! Worth the extra $ over a solid shelf. It's so visually appealing.

I dislike seeing clothes from a doorway so ours has cupboards built in around the perimeter. The only open part is the bit with my husband’s caps which are on pull out racks.

I was considering the pax. Any regrets or do you just love it?

We love ours. We have four units with sliding doors set up for his/hers 2 units each with the same setup for both of sides. It took a lot of man hours to assemble, but it has been really good other than that. Everything is soft close, which was nice.

We even had to moved it from one rental house to another (in a U-Haul!) and it survived the move without issues. Disassembly was straight forward and all the shelves and drawers removed easily. It's now 4 years old and still works perfectly.

The only "issue" you'll encounter right now is that the PAX stock is extremely hard to find due to the supply chain shortage.

Here's a photo of our setup at the first place before the doors went on. It was a tiny townhouse without any closet space. This replaced all our drawers in the master. Pardon the mess!

The pants hangers we are divided on whether we would replace those with more drawers (more storage) if we did it again, but they work and it's easy to see all your pants which is nice too.

It depends on whether you enjoy hands on planning and installation but we have used online ordering from Easy Closets for so many of our homes. I love designing and planning the closets and have always had great service from them. I would include pictures but that would require more effort than I want to expend since I've never done that before. You can do an online search for Easy Closets and then play around in their site and see if that's in your wheelhouse. Whatever you choose, good luck and enjoy that well organized closet you'll have when you're finished.

BTW, Kenny, very funny!

My photo I posted above is all IKEA Pax.

We used California Closets. They are pricey, but will designer will work with you till you like the final layout. I am trying to figure out how see to attach some video of the layouts-- *any help would be appreciated*
Get the belt hooks, regular hooks, valet rods that pull out for hanging up outfits before you head to work or going out, the roll out wire baskets ..these are handy for dry cleaning that needs to go out, clothes that need airing , etc...
We did not need to get drawers or cabinets as there is enough space in my master, this is also where it becomes very costly.
There are so many options to add to your closet. I looked at a lot of closet pictures made a file to share with designer and we came up with something that I am very happy with. Ofc- I could've more for more money- nice to dream tho;)2
Good luck!
