I have been thinking of what to do with my Madagascan ruby pair. They are 2.8mm. I was thinking to use them as sides to a nice tsav, but the one I have is a square emerald (5mm) and I thought that might be awkward. Of course with good design anything is possible. I put them next to each other and still am unsure. I considered perhaps getting a round tsav. I also am thinking of going back to my five stone idea but with the square tsav, the rubies, and two 2.4mm diamond crystals. Lots of different geometries, but it could work. ALso I like that in a way it makes a sampling of the platonic solids with the square, round and triangle/pyramid. What do you think? Feel free to discourage or encourage as you will.

Definitely not a square shape as the flow is dischordant. That particular hue of green doesn't go well with the red either. I've tried it before and the general consensus is Christmas colours.

Hi Vapid,

I happen to like the color combination. I have demantoids the color of that tsav, and I think rhodalite garnets go wellwith that color as well. Although I am thinking that the tsav and rubies may be brighter than your pics

I do not care for the end diamonds at all. What I really like with the green is a bright blue, like kyanite or an bright blue sapphires as side stones. i will b watching this thread as I have several stones to set that i am having the same problem with.

Steely gray Spinel or purple Spinel. You could do a square center stone imo, just move the rubies off of it a few millimeters.

Square centre is unique and gorgeous! Do you remember my emerald ring? That is square with rounds on either sides and works!

I was just going to mention that ring, LD!

Yes, I like the square with the rounds, but I'm not sure about the color combo.

If they were mine I would set them as you have them laid out, however, I would insert 2 or 3 small diamonds (in a small accent only size) between the tzav and rubies......then put another one of the same size diamond or other stone outside of the ruby. For me, it would weave the stones and shapes together in a descending way from the tzav, but still allow the color's to have full effect.......

Digdeep's suggestion is a great way to make the shapes and colour combination work. I once had a square center with 2 round sides and did not like it, hardly wearing it. It was a white cushion diamond with 2 round blue sapphires. Having little diamonds (neutral colour) break up the very different shapes and very different colours will give it a better design flow.
