Silver Blue (& rose and green) Akoya Necklace

I just ordered these... from TPO! LOL 8.0-8.5 Silvery Blue Akoyas with rose, green and tealish overtones

It was their last strand!
In the picture- there is a partial hank (is that the right lingo? I think?) of extra pearls in the back, I ordered a few to add length to the necklace and to make some earrings (just plain drops, I think).

Anyway! So excited!

I did call PP and they said that they mostly had silvery strands left. Which, was ok, but when I called TPO, the size I wanted was over $100 cheaper and still bluish.
I made a post a while back asking about silver/grey tahitians and someone mentioned that TPO had these on sale. In November. LOL I decided just to call them to see if they were going to be carrying them again because they were sold out, and apparently they had just one single strand left. To make myself more like a PIA, I asked for pictures of the strand too

So, here is the strand I ordered.

I was debating on ordering some earrings from FF, or getting a blue strand, and decided on the blue strand for now.

I am soooo tired right now, sorry if my post is a little dis-jointed.

Here is another teaser

I went through the pictures and they are allllll terrible. Cat hair all over the place, shadows.. so a re-do is in order.

This picture would be all items that I strung myself (minus #9)

1) Freshwater double bracelet- I had bought 3 white strands in the same size from pearl lunar. The bracelet got the "not as nice" pearls. the other ones are on strand #3
2) FW multi colored rice double necklace. I plan to re do this one. This was my 3rd attempt. I LOVE the colors but I didn''t put them on the right clasp.
3) 19" FW necklace
4) 18" FW multi necklace I LOVE these colors. They all look dull here, but I will get better pics soon!
5 & 6) I might combine these to make a loooong skinny FW necklace. They are 17.5" and tiny but the color is good.
7) The knots are huge!! My second attempt at stringing lol Don''t care for this one, it was just something to do.
My first attempt. Big knots. lol
9) a long rope from chuyun (ebay).. not the best in shape, but fun, and I won it at a good price.

I only started buying pearls in august/ september. I had no idea what the difference was. It''s a learning process. Since then, I''ve been building up my "library" of pearls.



On a side note, I hope my Akoyas are everything I want them to be. My first experience with TPO was not good, but the tahitian studs I got were PERFECT.. so they are 50/50 right now in my book

On ANOTHER side note, I really love this forum. I don''t know anyone else that cares about pearls, diamonds or colored stones. This is really the only chance I have to talk about these things, everyone else just thinks it''s boring and wasteful... so... yeah. I come here for jewelry guidance

Swedish, I got my first tahitian pendant in 1999 I think. You''ve only been buying pearls since last year and your collection is much larger than mine..lol..

Theirs looked gorgeous.. nice blue color, beautiful pics etc. Then I got mine.. umm.. no. So I''m scared to make that mistake again. I saw on PP''s site they have something called Madama which is the the equivalent of the hanadama''s but for natural blue akoyas. The pics looks amazing. But it''s also 1,600 for 7.-7.5mm pearls. Have you seen them?

Swedish what a fantastic collection for only starting in Aug/Sept.!! You did a great job stringing too! Elle--- I am surprised that you didn''t like the silver blue akoyas. They are what has turned me onto pearls............. but if I had my choice between a tahitian strand and a silver/blue akoya strand........ I would probably choose a Tahitian strand.

Some are more blue than others. Usually if it's a monthly special and you wait a while to order, the "blue" ones were probably picked over already. The smoother the surface and the larger the pearls seem to be more lustrous than small, wrinkly ones because you see more reflection on larger size and no wrinkly bumps to interfere with the mirror images. I love mine from PP.

Some pearls even have pink or green overtone on white surface, but unfortunately get lost on my skin. But the blue still shows.

It''s better to wait until they get another batch in. It maybe awhile, but worth it. I got my mom a smaller size, can''t remember which size, but it wasn''t large enough to show the reflection. It''s nice, but not as nice as mine. I can''t remember which size I have, maybe 8mm or larger.

I got the necklace today. I love it! Here is a quick cellphone pic. I am SUPER sick, feel like the world is collapsing on my lungs, and haven't gotten out of bed all day except to get the mail, and to post this picture on here for you guys

I'm glad I got this size 8-8.5 because they already seem small enough (they seem to be 7-7.5?? are these measured hole to hole or opposite?) . I was surprised how much lighter they were than my tahitians!

Feel better hon... and then take lots of pics!! Glad you like them and are keeping them. They look gorgeous! I can see the blue too and the lovely rose overtones. You are just use to the size and weight of the tahitians so naturally these are going to feel different to you........

Elle.... I may have gotten in on the blue akoya sale in the midst of it as my pearls are not super blue....but more of a powdery/silvery blue......... but I don''t mind as I think if they looked too blue they might look a bit generic looking if that makes sense. I do hope that you give them another chance as I think they would be a lovely addition to your pearl collection!!
