Hi,
A few weeks ago I decided to get a couple simple wedding bands for my right hand. . .very thin ones that would just add a touch of gold. . .but now I''ve also decided to go ahead and get another band with a diamond. The diamond is going to be small around .20 carats. . .the style I''m looking at is this Elsa Perretti one that has a much smaller stone, only .02. Would I be able to have a flat lying band with a .20 stone or would it have to be kind of domed? I''m kind of thinking it may be domed, which I DO NOT LIKE/WANT.

Any ideas on a similar style that would lay more flat? I have until december to find a good style so hopefully something good can be found.

Thanks for any help,
Michelle

I had that very ring once, took it back and had it copied for the same price but with two more stones. That stacks well. Id stay with it at or below a 10 pointer myself.

Okay, thanks, I was thinking the diamond was too big for a simple band (I already have it and need to set it into something, so I guess I'll do a simple bezel set with a smooth plain band??? This was my second choice.).

Thanks again,
Michelle

Michelle, my 2 cents on the Elsa Peretti ring. I had this a few years back and sold it because I did not like it at all!! It's an absolutely tiny diamond and the ring itself is very simple, too simple. In my opinion it works best when stacked with other similar rings for a better showing, or even with other silver bands for a better showing, the band itself got lost on my hand and the diamond did not really even sparkle at all. Not super surprising since it's bezel covered and also it's tiny, something like a .02c?

Anyway, I just don't want you to get it and be disappointed, as I was. Make sure to try it on at the stores first and really see if you would like something like that. In terms of .20c sitting flat...you could probably have something designed. It's all about the depth of the band, you can design or find something that does sit flush with the ring, but it has to be the depth of the diamond at least...so whatever a .20c would be in depth. We did this for Greg's ring, made the depth of his wedding ring the depth of his diamond so it would be flush.

.05 is pretty much as big as you can go and set it in a band like that.
Its the depth thats a problem.
Total depth of the diamond needs to be under the thickness of the ring.
Most bands are between 1.5 and 2mm
even .10 would require a custom thicker band.
I looked into this when I had mine done.
My original idea was like the ring you posted but ended up going with a .15 in a bezel.

Have a look at www.ringdesigner.com - they have a band with a 0.25ct diamond set flush. http://www.ringdesigner.com/bands/add-diamonds/add-diamonds-2-cfbands.html
