Hi everyone,
I've been reading posts about speed bumps and euro shanks as my knuckles are wider than the base of my fingers. My rings usually spin quite a lot, so I was thinking of getting a speed bump at the bottom of my next ring or maybe even a speed bump plus a euro shank. I have a few questions I was hoping anyone who's had experience with these may be able to help with. My ring size is usually 4.75 and the design I have in mind has a 2.5-3mm shank.
1) I'm not sure if I should size up slightly if I choose to go with a speed bump. Usually, I can slide a size 4.75 ring past my knuckles with some wiggling if my hands aren't too warm but it's a bit of a struggle in the middle of Australian summer when my fingers swell up. However, with size 4.75 rings, they usually sit quite loosely around my middle finger and tend to spin a lot when it's cold. On hotter days, it doesn't spin as much and sits quite snuggly. I was originally thinking of going with 4.75 with a speed bump, but with the added bump at the bottom, would I struggle more to get it over my knuckles as it makes the inner diameter smaller? Should I size up to a 5 or 5.25 then put a bigger bump at the bottom maybe?
2) Would you recommend doing both a speed bump and euro shank? I've tried on euro shank rings before, and they don't seem too uncomfortable. I imagine I'd get used to it pretty quickly. However, if I was planning on stacking bands with this ring in the future, would those bands also have to have a euro shank, or would normal ones work fine? DK has told me that euro shanks are harder to stack with round bands...
I have to finalise my ring design by next week, but I'm still not sure what to do for the prongs and engravings, and whether I should engrave the side of the bezel. I was thinking maybe double prongs or triple prongs, but I'm also open to engravings with smaller prongs like the Singlestone Colette ring. I've attached an image of the first CAD, but I will be asking DK to make a few changes.
I would love to hear any suggestions or see any inspiration pictures as I am pretty stumped here. I've scrolled through so many pages of ring settings, it's all becoming a bit overwhelming now. This is my first custom ring project, as you all can probably tell
