Small Ruby - These any good?

Hmmm... They are inexpensive... too inexpensive to me. Does that company guarantee that (h) heat means only heat and not anything else? I have a suspicion that they are glass filled at that price, but I certainly wouldn''t say that definitively...

No idea - I got the rec for the place from a pricescoper so I thought they were a good place to buy.

Multicolor has some beauties and a lot of nasties - just my two cents.

I haven''t looked at your links specifically.

They''re all going to be really dark, way too dark.

I don''t know much about rubies, but multicolour does have a pretty good reputation around here. As Charmy said, they have beauties and nasties.

I would say that those do look dark and very purple...not that red. More sapphire than ruby IMHO.

I would anticipate a brownish kind of a color IRL. Again... i could be wrong. Just don''t want you to spend money on a gem you won''t use/wear. Been there done that x 100 lol! Wish I would have held off, and saved all that money to buy one really good one lol!

Absolutely no way. David Weinberg wouldn't risk his reputation. He discloses all treatments.

Jax - I can only get the first two links to work but the thing to bear in mind about Multicolour is that they really do price (generally speaking) correctly - so you get what you pay for. These rubies are very dark (pretty, but dark). If that's what you're looking for then they're a great deal. If you want David's opinion, drop him a line via the link on Multicolour.

While Multicolour does sell glass filled rubies, they are fully disclosed. The origin/color/and price of the rubies posted above all match.

Multicolour is a very reputable vendor who discloses treatment. If it is glass filled, they will note that upfront. As for the stones:
Ruby 1 = too dark and too purple. I’m not sure if the inclusions will bother you and if they will be obvious in person.
Ruby 2 = looks to be better than #1 but still purple and not symmetrical
Ruby 3 = sold?

In terms of colour, I consider these to be purplish red sapphires and not rubies. However, for the price, one cannot expect a ruby colour either.

I''ll have to look then! Maybe I''ll get a pretty!

I replied in the other forum already, but I''ll repeat some things just in case... It''s not a vendor that''s the problem, in fact there''s really no problem with these stones. They are rubies that look more like mediocre rhodolites, and are priced accordingly. You can''t expect a fine ruby of that size for around 100$, cause the best ones in those sizes go for 20.000-30.000$, if not more, and if you can find one. These are quite purplish, but if that''s the color that you like, they''re just fine. You miight also check out stones like red zircons, malaya garnets or rhodolites if you like darker reds. None of those would cost much more in small sizes and you can find them in various shades of deep reds, some quite nice.

Yes - bought #3. Don''t have a big budget now so we''ll see how it looks. I understand this won''t be top of the line. I just want a pretty stone that "is" a ruby. It is my birthstone.
