Hi! I’m in the initial stages of trying to find a pair of 4mm size or thereabouts bright blue sapphire side stones for a three stone ring I’m envisioning.

Let me start off by saying, I literally know nothing about sapphires, the sapphire market, how rare certain colors are, etc. I only know that I’d like to explore the concept of really FREAKING GORGEOUS COLOR blue side stones for my 6.3mm E color CBI that needs setting. I’ve looked at every vendor on the CS vendor list and pairs are scarce. I am likely going to go with a jeweler like David Klass or Brilliantly Engaged, so I wonder if they might have access to super nice small stones.

I don’t mind treatment. I want lively rather than sleepy. Color is important: I want pure blue, very little to no purple, and no inkiness. I don’t mind inclusions.

This is the color I like (see links).

I found these two pairs at Gemfix but they are larger than I need. Is this color close to my “dream color” above?

I also -think- I like this color. I have no idea how to interpret what these would look like on a ring. Gemfix says they are flashy. I’m considering this color because I saw an antique diamond ring recently with lighter cornflower blue side sapphires that was a very unusual color to see in jewelry, and really pretty.

And this pair of earrings from DBL have a nice color and a relatively lower price. What do you think of them?

Last, if you have any photos of three stone rings with a diamond center and unusual or pretty color blue sapphires please share them. I guess in this day and age, luxury items like colored side stone rings are not really made. I see mostly inky sapphire colored side stones, even from Tiffanys, which is kind of shocking. I can’t seem to find images of crisper color.

Thanks in advance.

David can source them for you if you brief him your requirements. Added benefit is that he can get the dimensions exactly right.

I am sure BE can source sidestones as well but you need to ask them

Yvonne Raley has a few pairs that meet your size requirement. I think this pair is freaking gorgeous:

Eta, the above are over 4mm, these ones here are under:

Thanks, I saw those first ones on Yvonne’s page and do love the color. Maybe not as neon as my ideal color reference, but a pure blue nonetheless. I could go up in size too, with a butterfly or trellis type design.

Just dialed them up. Oh WOW!!! Gorgeous stuff, I’m going to look closely. Thank you!

Thank you this is a great idea. David seems to know everybody, ha likely to have great sources.

Africa Gems have calibrated, precision cut, blue sapphires in sizes up to 4mm. It looks like they have AAA, AA, and A color grades. David would likely know how good the AAA really is.

Thank you for the source! I’ll check it out. If anone here has info on what those color grades actually mean, I’d be interested. I’ll google it too.
