Smallest diameter for inside-outside hoops?

I have an eternity band that I don't wear. It has 18 stones that are about 11 points each. I would like to repurpose these stones into a pair of inside-outside hoop earrings. Ideally they would be between "huggie" size and hoops. I've measured 2 pairs that I have at home and I believe this would be about 15-16mm in diameter. I looked through the threads of hoops and it's hard to tell whether the diameter is so small that the inside-outside effect would be lost.

Is there anyone who has any experience with this who might be willing to offer their input? Thanks so much!

I think it is a great idea to repurpose a jewelry piece rather than having the piece sitting pretty in the safe. However before you go any further, you might want to get some pricing on the cost of the conversion. Labor and materials are not cheap nowadays and you may have to wait for a long time. Having a custom-made may not be the most time and cost effective.

As a comparison, this 4ctw set of hoops at Costco was on sale a couple times previously. I have seen they have gone on sale for $1,000 off prior ($3K before tax). They are definitely not comparable to the ACA or any super ideal. But their quality is not bad at all. They seem to be super white to me and price was very affordable. They also have smaller hoops on sale from $500 to $700 off sometimes if you are patient and wait for their next sale.

What I am trying to say is if you want hoops, buy the hoops that you like, unless the diamonds are heirloom or have special meaning to you. Otherwise, the cost of labor and the time may not be reflected in your final piece.

If you do huggies, you won't see the inside diamonds on the back half of the hoop, no?

Instead of round hoops, how about D-shaped/oval hoops?

DK :))

I’m getting quotes to reset 6 or 8 0.17ct stones into oval, d-shaped, J-shaped huggies. I don’t like round hoops. All the designers I met with called them different things, but they said I can edit the designs after I saw the CAD drawings.

These are my favorite inside out design. The stones wrap around bottom of the hoop and the hinge is at the top half of the back, behind the ear.

You definitely raise some valid points. Unfortunately I haven't really been able to find anything that met my specifications despite keeping an eye on Costco and a local jeweler (who is massively overpriced anyway) and haven't seen anything. I should/could call IDJ to inquire. Everything I've seen so far is longer/bigger than I would like. Your input is really helpful, though, so thank you!

So that's part of what I'm trying to figure out. True huggies obviously don't show the back half of the hoop. But I have a pair of hoops that are 16 mm (5x15 point stones). You definitely can see the metal in the back half of the hoop with them. I think I want something about that length but with smaller stones.

I really like this design! Thanks for sharing it. I'm curious what they would look like on the ear - will have to search for some pictures.

I hadn't thought of this, but then @chere posted the Kwiat ones and this is a great idea!
