Has anyone used it?? I have not used it as yet , but read about it great reviews.Anyone using it? What do you think? Thanks..

I like it. But then, I have tried all the stuff there is! (only slightly kidding). It has silicone in it, so you need a remover that can get that off.

I haven''t tried it myself, but I''ve heard many ladies swear that Monistat anti-chafing gel is a near exact match in the list of ingredients and performance, at a fraction of the price. Hard to believe, but true! Try googling them together, and you''ll see what I mean.

Monistat? Isn''t that for yeast infections? Or, I''m I really ignorant?

Marvel...it rang the same bell with me. Maybe the spelling is off...she is after all ON VACATION!

(just kiddin love)

I got a smashbox starter kit...HERE it had the primer, eye brightener, eyeliner and eyebrow kit and brush, and a lip gloss...it touted an educational DVD so I got it. Think I paid $29 at Ulta.

Love the eyebrow stuff...it has a wax that makes them stay put...and eyeliner colors 4 or 6 colors to choose...I had always been a pencil eyeliner user...no more. The brush is less tugging on my delicate eye area so I am in on that product.

Lip gloss is lip gloss...but I don''t find it anything too spectacular.

Primer...is OK. I do use the Bare minerals makeup and they also have a primer. You get more product for $19. and I think they are very very similar. They are both in my tray and as long as I grab one of them, I am happy. I think it does make my foundation stay truer longer. But it has been so long since I haven''t used it I can''t describe the difference to you. It glides on smooth and sinks in and drys quickly. Seems to make some pores less noticeable. I use AcneFree cleanser to cleanse my face and have never noticed a problem on removing it.

DVD was disappointing...it only showed one application and one explanation. I was thinking they were going to suggest several with all the eye colors. Boo HOo.

There are actually 3 other smashbox primers I would suggest a look. TRY one of these if you hope to correct any shading or darkening or just anything. These you can really tell you have done something.

Scarletta, at Ulta, you can buy a trial size of the primer you are asking about...$14 ot $17 I think. It is more like a travel size.

Phew...at least I''m not the only one

But, I did a google search...and yeah, she''s right...it can be used as a primer...go figure! Someone mentioned on another board that it''s like the DHC primer and that stuff''s awesome. I just don''t know if I can get past the monistat part

Lots of help posted here thanks.
Diamondfan:can one just use make up remover? to take it off?
Onvacation:
Marvel; thanks for looking it up..I had the same feeling with the name like monistat..
DKS: I won''t get my beauty sleep again.. Had to read the 1st line twice...I''m slow.. , but I GOT IT...ha ha ha..
I will follow up your links and hopefully be able to beautify myself really soon with above help..
We don''t have Ulta ,so I will have to google it out and see where to get it..
Thanks

LOL, yeah, that''s what I thought at first, too. But apparently there''s a cream for that, and the gel isn''t for the infections but for the, ahem, derriere. I haven''t tried because I felt a bit squeamish about putting stuff on my face that''s meant for the other end! But if you think about it, people use Preparation H on their eyes (which was recently disencouraged by the makers, btw), so go figure. I think if it''s safe enough for your bottom and the vajayjay, it can''t hurt on your nose and cheeks.

Here''s the list of ingredients if you want to compare yourself. Other than the vitamins and oils, which you would get in your moisturizer anyway, I don''t see much difference.

Smashbox primer 0.93 oz: Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Isopropylparaben, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ascorbic Acid, Carthamus Tinctorium (Safflower) Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract, Cola Acuminata Seed Extract, Propylene Glycol, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract, Isobutylparaben, Butylparaben, Water

Monistat anti-chafing gel :
active ingredient : Dimethicone 1.2%
inactive ingredients : cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone, dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, silica, tocopheryl acetate, trisiloxane

Thanks Onvacation for explaning this and also for the list of ingredients..You are absolutely right the skin absorbs lots no matter what part of the body you put it on.They could just change the name for marketing purposes..
I will check out the listed products.Thanks..

No kidding, but it probably wasn''t meant as a make up primer when they put it on the market. I wonder who thought of putting on their face.

Does anybody remember those little chocolate diet supplements from the ''70''s called AIDS...what a marketing nightmare that must have been!

I''ve tried...and bought it, but I never really cared for it....I like and have gone back to the MAC primer with the Fix+ spary afterwards. These two hold onto my make up very well. If you go to the MAC counter, I know they can give you a small samlple in a little jar..That should llast you a couple of days to check and see if you like it...

I really like the Becca mineral primer with 30+ Sppf and it also gets rave reviews and like it too!

I splurged on the Smashbox primer last year prior to my wedding. I really, really wanted to use and love this product and tested it several times prior to the wedding. I HATED it. I hated how my make up looked and I hated how it made my skin look more oily. Maybe it''s just me but I returned it.

L girl: thanks we have MAC so I will definitely check it out..
Thanks Katebar: will look into BECCA mineral primer also ( not sure if we have it ??)
Thanks Aquarius: Good to know I guess one must try it to know.In any case I can''t get hold of this product locally ( I could get it on line , but then I could not try it)
Your input came right on time because I will venture out this weekend to search for it..Thanks again..

Yes Marvel: maybe we ought to tell the company to change the name of their product..May work better for them..

Do you have a Sephora? You could try the Smashbox there? Maybe they could pump out a little or have a sample??? but, it looks like that''s 2 of us who didn''t like it.

I think it''s OK.

What really annoyed me was the fact that, after about two weeks, the stuff got kinda "crumbly" and it had teeny gritty little blobs in it. Pretty frustrating for the price.

I know Sephora sells a very small tube of the stuff for about $15 USD or so, it might be a way to test-drive it without putting a hole in your wallet.

Also, Makeupalley (which is a cosmetics review site) has a ton of reviews on both formulas (with Dermaxyl and without), and MUA lists the skin-types of the folks reviewing stuff, som it''s pretty easy to pick out the reviewers who have your skin type and see what the stuff did for them.

Personally, it''s too much for everyday use for me. It works well, and does what it says: your makeup will go on more smoothly, and it will last longer. But it takes some heavy-duty work to remove this stuff.

The telltale sign that it isn''t all coming off, or that your skin can''t handle it, will be when/if you develop milia.

I only use it for special occasions, or when I know I''ll be photographed. Otherwise it''s just too heavy for every day use.

The silicone molecules need something to break them down.

Laura Mercier makes a nice primer, as does Napoleon Perdis (Sephora has it). Their''s are more skin lotion like.

Also, Clarins makes one of those gel ish type ones, and it too helps spackle the pores. Something I would use once in a while, not every day. The lotion type ones, especially if they have an SPF, are a great first layer of defense to protect the skin from the elements.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Smashbox Face Primer. I would never be without it. I am 58 years old and have a few fine lines. It makes them disappear.

What I do first is: Put a little primer in the palm of my hand, smear it, then put it on my face. To me, it blends better that way.

It washes right off at night, when I cleanse my face.

Linda

I have the Smashbox Primer LIGHT which is oil-free -- gives a nice matte look that I like. I have sensitive dry/oily skin, and before I used a retinol product I needed a primer to "fill in" some of my larger pores for a perfectly smooth surface. Most days now I use a japanese facial suncreen (Sofina''s Perfect UV Lucent) that has an SPF of 50 and gives a really nice matte finish and feels like it has silicones in it too because of the way it glides on.

Also for the girls having a tough time removing their silicone products -- you need to do an oil pre-cleanse. Pick up some cheap apricot/jojoba/grapeseed oil depending on the dryness/oiliness of your skin, and either rub the oil right into your skin and remove with a hot wash cloth, or use the oil with cotton pads. Then wash your face as normal. No, the oil won''t make you break out, and it''s very gentle on your skin.

Hey Scarleta, do you get a little shiny?? I use and love Smashbox's Anti-Shine. It comes in clear and neutral (I use clear) and it acts like a primer as well. I love it. I would suggest that instead...if you get shiny too

Thanks L girl: I got a little sample of smashbox primer ( was not sure if I could find it but I did)
Will give it a try and see..
I asked about monistat gel and was promptly directed to pharmacy department each time..I am not sure if they believed me that its the staff to put on your face...so that one I won''t find here..
Thanks to everyone again at least I have some more options now...
Love in Bloom: I don''t get shiny , thanks so much for pointing it out ..

Just an update re smashbox primer. It really works like charm.I tried a sample and just got a bottle. Its expensive , but I hope it will last a long time.

Scarleta,

I love it. You only need a little, so it will last you quite awhile.

Linda

Thanks Linda yes it does magic for me also and had no problem removing it so far.How long should it last?

Scarleta,

Will you be using it every day? I am retired, so I don''t use mine every day. Mine lasts a few months, or longer. You only use a very thin layer. At first I used too much, what a mess!!! Then I learned to just use a little. It really makes a difference doesn''t it? My skin is literally flawless and I will be 58 in September.

I love the stuff.

Linda

If you overuse a silicone base like that your make up gets all pilly. So it is important to not overuse it, and make sure it is really thinned out as you apply it. You will know if you overuse it because your makeup will be almost impossible to apply!

You are so right DF. I found out the hard way the first few times. Ick, what a mess.

I like it too.

I wear makeup so rarely, that what i really like is the fact that it kinda ''dilutes'' it on my face and makes it feel less like I am wearing a mask.

Honestly, I use powder only on a regular day, but the days when I wear makeup, I really like the primer!

Thanks so much ladies.I started with the sample and was told it should last for 2 applications , so I did not put too much.I don''t use make up every day so it should last longer.I use tinted moisturizer sometimes instead so I won''t be putting primer on those days..If you have any other tips that are great products please share..Thanks
