Hey Girls... has anyone used daisies as wedding flowers? I''ve heard they are pretty hardy but I''m not thinking white. Do the "Dyed" ones wilt faster?

Our wedding colors are slate blue and light yellow and we''ve almost decided on a May date.

So for flowers..
I was thinking darkish blue daisies, yellow daisies w/ pink centers, some color mini daisies for bridesmaids bouquets.

For my bouquet I was thinking the above mentioned plus yellow gerbera daisies.

So is anyone else considering daisies or been to a wedding where they were used?
Does anyone know if they would last long?

Thanks!

I think a few PS ladies used daisies for their bouquet and table centrepieces... One that I can remember clearly is Tuckins'' wedding (hope it was her!). She also used Gerbera daisies on her cake.

I love all flowers, and daisies are so beautiful!! The colours you are thinking of sounds great!

As for the longevity of daisies, i hope others will chime in on this!

Good luck!

I've never thought of daisies (normal ones) as a particularly hardy flower...the ones I used to pick would wither within the day, but maybe ones from florists last longer. I think that Gerbera daisies are quite a bit hardier, but the stems are very prone to flopping over. For a truly hardy flower, I recommend spider mums (also called Fuji mums) -- we used them, and they last forever. They come in a variety of colors and I think they can be dyed like daisies, but they might not be the look you're going for. It's worth taking a look, though, because they're also very inexpensive.

BTW: our colors were also blue and yellow, but we did white and yellow spider mums, with blue lots of other places in the decor.

I love Gerbera daisies and used some orange ones in my arrangements. I''m not a fan of the ones that have been died (I''ve seen some really weird looking teal ones before) but I absolutely adore them in orange, yellow, or pink. If I were you, I would use them in yellow. Unless a flower naturally comes in a dark purple or blue, I think they end up looking weird and unnatural. I dunno, just my opinion.

I'm having gerbera daisies in my bouquet and if I remember right from when I worked in a floral shop, they usually last anywhere from 7-14 days given that they are cut properly on the stems and placed in water. They will stay sturdy and not flop over if your florists isnt a dumb you know what and uses floral wiring to keep the stems in an upright position. If she (or he :) ) doesn't, all you do is acquire a thin wire to be inserted at an angle into the bottom of the flower and then twist it around the stem to the bottom. This works wonders :) that was always my job for some reason lol
Hope this helps!

I''m using gerberas, and have seen a TON of them in weddings. From what I know, they last very long, and are a good hot weather flower. The colors sound lovely, by the way!

I used gerbera daisies (white and yellow) for my flowers, plus yellow roses for the bouts. Daisies are my favourite flowers, and that was one thing I wouldn''t compromise on... I loved my flowers! The florist told me gerbera daisies would last longer than regular daisies.

I wanted daisies, and my florist told me they weren''t hardy enough, so we are using daisy mums, which look like daisies but are heartier.

thank you so much, girls!
It's funny but I was so worried that i wouldn't find a flower that I liked enough to put in my bouquet.. but at my church last sunday there was a BEAUTIFUL fall floral arrangement on our communion table and it had these yellow daisies w/ pink centers and I thought they were so pretty! I even took a pic with my camera phone lol. Then I was back on Thursday and looked closely at them and they still looked the same as when I had seen them on sunday! I thought that was pretty impressive.

Thanks a mill, smurphy! Now when i find a florist, I can make sure they will put wires in my flowers! I'll get that in writing too

I'll look into Daisy mums.. and maybe a different blue flower... or i'll make them show me a dyed blue daisy ahead of time.. NO TEAL for me lol.
Every time i think of Teal in a wedding I think of the movie "The Wedding Planner"

"Do you know that she chose teal for her bridesmaids dresses? Teal! The color of gangrene!". lol.. I'm weird.

Oh and i forgot to mention that I love sunflowers as well so I may introduce a few into my bouquet. They are in the same family as daisies, rite?

You are all so helpful. thank you!

Edit:
maybe you girls can help me out on this one.. I don't remember who it was but someone here on PS had one the most Gorgeous bouquets i have ever seen!
It was mostly pink and white? roses with pretty little flowers that had five points (like a star) with a little pearl in the center... does anyone know who that bouquet belongs to?

Or what those little "star flowers" were? And what colors they come in? haha. What would I do without you all?!

the small 5 star flowers sound like stephanotis, a traditional and lovely wedding flower. They are wired in, and the pearl centers are done by hand for stability and for the look. You can do crystals in the center too, if you like them. Or leave them plain.

Personally I'd do light yellow roses, verigated blue delphinium and some stephaotis if you like them. Will be pretty affordable and lovely to boot!

Does anyone have experience with dyed flowers? I''d be worried about the dye leaking out the end of the stem and on to your or your BMs dresses. I feel like the times I have gotten dyed flowers as a gift the water they were put in turned whatever color they were dyed. Just a thought. I''d hate for you to have a stained dress if your bouquet drips or you rest it on your gown while sitting.

Thank you! i think that''s them! Do they only come in white?

i''m trying to stay away from roses if possible. They are just so "traditional". idk. But we''ll see.
I love your suggestion, tho!
Thanks!

That''s a good point. Anyone have any info regarding the potential "dripping" problem?!

You can sub yellow spider mums or well, a lot of different flowers in these bouquets.

This one has a ton of rannunculus in it (spelling?) which is available at different times of the year. You can do the small blue flowers (which I think start with an A but I can't remember) in this pic instead of stephanotis, but it's much more likely to bruise. Stephanotis is only available in white that I've seen, and it's got nice staying power, which is why it's used. It's a BIG bouquet though, so you can slip the sucker down to save money.

I wouldn''t include the fern (leather leaf) or the filler (ick, looks terrible in there) but I wanted to show the yellow roses with the delphinium. I would do less saturated yellow roses and specify that you want OPEN roses if you do decide on roses. The open roses will look less overdone than a bunch of buds. Another thing to consider is instead of large roses spray roses in yellow. They are beautiful, elegant, but have more personality than single stems.

How about just blue and white like this one. Just use a yellow ribbon. Peonies will be hard to find in May, but not impossible. You can also sub other things for peonies in here, like white (or light yelllow) rannunculus, and stick some spidermums in. Which should be available in May. You can also sub light yellow berries for the green berries. And the hydrangea is nice because it''s full and takes up a lot of room without a lot of lot of stems.

MAY wedding. D''oh. TULIPS. Light yellow tulips would be stunning. Either stand alone or in a bunch of different flowers.

Casually brilliant tulips. You can do yellows and whites with the tulips and a slate ribbon.

tulips-bouquetGYp.jpg

Formally arranged tulips framed with gorgeous leaves.

A mixed bouquet lkinda like this (but a little more 'ball' and a little less 'spray') would be very spring. Imagine white hydrangeas or hyacynth and yellow tulips in here, astromeria (which is in here) comes in yellow and so does -- no pink. Those blue flowers are ONLY available in spring (and I'm out of practice so I can't remember what they are called but I can figure it out for you if you like it). Mini carnations also come in yellow and would look lovely in here (and would be affordable).

And another PSer has a simiar avtar, I will try and find it!

I personally love this though. Mini callas come in light yellow, but will be pricey.

Wow, Gypsy! Can I ask you to be my wedding planner?! Thank you so much for posting all of these! They are lovely! but this one is def my favorite!

I''m going to add it to my inspiration board!

And tulips! What a novel idea! I like flowers that look "open" if that makes sense but that is a beautiful bouquet! I''d totally not count that one out.

And mini carnations would be fabulous too! Especially helpful for boutonnieres!

Oh gosh! Now the gears in my head are really turning!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I had daisies and they held up pretty well. This is the last photo taken before the reception started (photos before and after the ceremony), and it had been an outdoor wedding, 92 degrees. As you can see, one daisy was starting to get a little wilty, but the others are doing just fine. I zoomed and cropped this photo - this kind of detail is completely not apparent in the real thing.

thanks for posting this photo! your bouquet is so pretty! If anything about our wedding will be outside, it''ll just be pics after the ceremony. If your flowers looked that good after being through that warm of a ceremony, i think mine should be ok if I still go the daisy route?

Thanks again!

i don''t have a ton of experience in dyed flowers....but you can get a floral spray to make them any color- it is sort of like spray paint for flowers. it comes in all sorts of colors. you can make it as heavy or light as you want. my florist sprayed white orchids green with it. spray it on a white flower and BAM- blue flower. :)
