somehow I convinced FI to take dance classes! We are having so much fun. Our teachers are 15 and 17 so at first I was kind of surprised but they are very good and FI said he actually felt more comfortable with them (some of the older teachers seem to take things VERY seriously). The first lesson they taught us the foxtrot and waltz. We just had our second yesterday and they came up with a routine for our first dance. IF we can pull it off it will look very impressive. We only got through the first half. It is so much to remember but we have two more classes and they wrote it down so we can practice. Just thought I would share my excitement!!!

How cool, Tacori!!

I''ve just started looking into this, as I''ve got 8 weeks to go. How did you find your whiz-kid teachers, and what are you going to end up doing- a foxtrot or waltz? Oh yeah, what''s your "song?"

Sorry for all the questions. It''s just that this is sooo timely. FI and I were talking about it last night, and trying to narrow down our first dance choices to two. I''m just glad that he''s open to taking lessons, and I need to jump on it!

Oh this is so cool.
I am SO OS OSOSOOSOSOSOSOOOOO jealous! My DH and I talked and talked about doing this, but somehow the time flew by and we never did! Sounds super fun. Maybe we''ll take a dance class in the future just because...

We are taking classes at a local, family owned ballroom dance studio. Our song is "At Last" by Etta James. Not FI''s favorite but I love it and thought it was fitting for us. Neither of us have taken professional dance classes before and I was shocked by how quickly we caught on. We are doing a waltz with lots of spins, turns, a dip! Eeeehhh...kind of nervous in my huge dress and 4+" inch heels. The woman has SO much more work than the man. We brought the song with us yesterday and the 15 year old boy put a dance together SO fast! We practiced last night. I *think* we can pull it off. I hope anyways!

charger, Oh I am kind of glad we waited until the last two weeks before the wedding so it will be more fresh in our mind and we won''t forget anything but since you have 8 weeks you could take more classes and learn more dances.

you can so pull it off! just don''t think too hard about it and feel the music!

funny you posted about this! i''ve danced my whole life but FI is a bit nervous about us dancing together at the wedding- although he''s not too shabby! my next door neighbor is a ballroom dance teacher certified to teach 35 dances! i asked him about classes and he says he offers private lessons. he even mentioned choreographing something special for our first dance. i really don''t think FI needs them, except that i think it will make him feel more comfortable and confident. i think i will surprise FI with them. sounds risky, but FI won''t mind, he''ll be excited to learn!

now if we could only pick a song!!! . . .

SDL- my toes were victims a few times. Maybe you can practice.

jcrow-I am glad to have choreography so we at least have an idea of what we are doing instead of just doing the box step over and over again. We made up our own names for moves so we could remember them easier. That is awesome that you know someone who can teach you. I totally suggest private classes. (that is what we are doing and I think you learn faster).

Ooh, it's so worth it! We took private dance lessons before our wedding and they really paid off. My husband is about a foot taller than I am and has absolutely no rhythm and I like to lead so taking the lessons really helped us so much. It's funny because every time we were on our way to the lesson, we were so not into going and really dreading it but once we got there we had so much fun and we always left in a good mood! Enjoy it!!!

We are like the same person. He is almost a foot taller and I totally try to lead. Even the simple stuff like where to place your hands really pays off (visually). It was hard to get him go to the first class but now we are both really excited about the classes. Our teachers are so cute too. FI always jokes with the boy that they are going to have a dance-off. Too funny!

same here- he''s a foot taller and i take the lead, mainly because i''m teaching him the steps. and by taking the lead i don''t mean he moves backwards like the girl, but rather that i tell him when to turn me or i turn myself- ya know? i think having a male teacher may help him learn those leading tips.

Honestly I don''t know how I did it. It DID help that his parents have been taking ballroom dance classes for almost a year and LOVE it! He really looks up to his dad so maybe that convinced him it wasn''t so bad. I just made it like he was doing to help me out (not the other way around though I do think I am a better dancer than he is. He doesn''t need to know that

) Then I found out prices and booked the first lesson (which was free). Basically he told me if I did all the work he would show up. His mom is so excited because now we can dance with them (FI with his mom and me with my FFIL).

Oh how fun Tacori!!!

My ff and I have also talked about taking dancing lesson''s for our first dance. I think it''s a great way to bond right before the wedding!

I''ve also considered doing it with my Dad for the Father/Daughter dance. He''s not a dancer!!

Thats so cool I bet your haveing so much fun! My FI and I decided to take salsa lessons as soon as we get back from WA we want to suprise everyone with a sassy salsa dance! were going to start out all slow and then WOW everyone TADA!!!

how fun! We took one private lesson. Just so we dont look like idiots! it was fun. We only learned the basics, but we will look better because of it! We are using I only have eyes for you by the flamingos (FI chose), and its so darn slow! I am doing a few turns and a dip! Who knew guys would have as much fun?

Heres to hoping neither of us trips!

Even knowing the proper stance makes a HUGE difference.

GarysBride- I love that idea but too complicated for us. We went to a wedding where the father/daughter dance was slow and then they broke out into swing. It was so cute.

Tacori how are you holding up? Just thinking about you since you''re wedding is before me :)

Hugs~

Michelle

You are so sweet. I am getting really excited. We have our third dance class today! So that should be fun. I still need to print and finish my programs

Nothing like waiting until the last moment

I just can''t wait until next saturday!

I should start a thread once I have pictures back (like your planning thread). I checked the weather. It is suppose to be partly cloudy, 83 degrees, 10% of rain. So that''s good right? We still have to come up with a play list for the dj as well. It''s never ending!

UPDATE:
Okay we learned the second half of the dance and it is MUCH harder than the first. I also wore my wedding shoes this time and they are slightly painful

Why, oh why do I have to be SOOOO short. Oh well. I am changing to flip flops after the first dance. We have to have lots of practice!
