My kitty is sick. They don''t know with what yet but the doctor thinks it could be cancer.
I feel so horribly guilty because I waited over two weeks to take him to the vet. He presented with hairball hack with no hairballs. It got better for a couple of days so I put it off. Then it took a week for me to get an appointment and I did that instead of just bringing him in or taking him to another vet. I thought he had asthma.
The doctor said he had lots of fluid around his lungs which they drained so now he has two shaved spots and two red marks on either side of his body. His breathing is much better but the doctor still doesn''t know why he was coughing. They''re looking at the fluid to see what it really is. I should find out in a day or so.
My fiance is being so wonderful, especially considering that he was his cat before I came along. He is being very optimistic and comforting me when I''ve been crying.

Oh Amanda you poor thing. Hang in there and hope for the best. Big hugs outgoing to you and your kitty.

I''m sorry. Hopefully they can figure it out. it could be pneumonia. I wonder if you should bring that up to him....HUGS!!

Oh sweetie, I feel your pain

I was in a similar situation once where I felt horribly guilty about not taking my cat to the vet sooner, but you know what? We''re only human and we can''t read animals'' minds to know when they''re not feeling 100%. If kitty seemed to be doing better, then of course you would think you could wait to get an appt and that it wasn''t an emergency -- I think most people would think/do that as well. So please don''t beat yourself up over that. You just did what you thought was right.

And my cat coughs a lot too, with no hairballs coming up, and we''ve brought him in for a million tests - x-rays, asthma, nose polyps test, MRI - and they''ve never found anything wrong with him, and they think it''s just allergies, just like people get. And I''ve also had vets tell me "Oh, it could be [something horrible]" and then it totally hasn''t been, so stay positive and try not to get too focused on the "it could be cancer" because until they know for sure, they don''t know.

Sending good thoughts and wishes and hugs to you guys!!

Amanda, I am sending out good thoughts to you and your kitty, please keep us posted.

I hope everything turns out well. Good luck.

(((hugs))) I am so sorry! It is so sad when our pets get sick. Hang in there and enjoy each and everyday you have your kitty!

So very sorry amanda. I totally understand the worry when a kitty is sick. I''m glad he is feeling better though. I highly rec''d an ultrasound (not *that* expensive...maybe $200-250)...You should check out the heart to see if there are any heart issues. When there is heart disease, the heart and lungs can fill with fluid...and cats my throw with this...THe good news is that cats can take medication and live very normal lives with this!!! Don''t beat yourself up over the timing of the vet visit. You do the best that you can and do what you think is best under the circumstances. Years ago, my hubby and I TOTALLY missed the signs of complete renal failure. I mean, were we retarded? No, just doing what we thought was right...and all you had to go by was a few hair-balls and labored breathing. It''s all good. Even if it is cancer, 2 weeks wouldn''t have meant a lot...So fogive yourself and congratulate yourself for being a good kitty mom. Head bonks.

I hope your kitty will be OK. It''s so hard the not knowing.

So sorry to hear about your kitty. Sounds like you are taking good care of him though!

Any news?

i feel your pain....literally and figuratively. my cebastian cat was diagosed with lympatic cancer 3 weeks ago. weight loss and vomiting were his symptoms. we were gone the first two weeks of september. i too think that if we''d been home then we''d have noticed and gotten him to the vet sooner. he is now on chemo and responding very well thus far which the vet said today is a good sign. however, she won''t rest easy [nor will we] until he has 3 months of improved health. not all cancers in cats respond well to chemo. it is not a cure all but definitely will give him QUALITY life for a longer period of time if it works. the alternative was that he''d be dead in 6-8 weeks. we got lucky that his cancer is responsive to chemo.

i''m so sorry that you too are going through this. the reality is that our beloved fuss faces come into our lives and we love them. but we too have lives to live and that means being away from our fuss faces at times. its hard when they get sick to not feel as you [and i] feel. i had the same thing happen a year ago in july with another cat that went within 4 days of my return home. its not any easier but i know i''ve been given some extra time with cebastian.

i will keep you and your kitty in my thoughts.

ps kitty kisses from cebastian to your kitty and kitty pets from me to him as well.

Have you heard anything? I hope that it doesn''t turn out to be something serious. Chloe sends head bonks and I am thinking positive thoughts and sending them your way...
